Default Vosa out in force blackburn

Just coming back from work and in the carpark they had about 3 cop vans with a few unmarked ones. They had loads of taxis parked up and just found out from my brother that they were pulling performance cars to check all insurances and if they are decatted.

Can they impound the car if its been decatted?

Jesus is that the best the can do, check if someone has removed a device for cleaning up the exhaust emissions, sod the drivers with no insurance, tax, mot or driven by illegals with no licence, there are so many transgressions before a decat is an issue that affects society, its so few people and such a negligible difference, the roads still have loads of cars, pre 92 with no car anyway, so how is a modern car with a closed loop Lambda a problem but a stinking old Cortina not.

Agree 100% it's a bloody waste of resources, especially when you have uninsured and/or unlicensed Drivers running about.

Australia was like this...the Cops and licensing authorities seemingly went to war against performance cars...defecting anything and everything.

I see loads of battered white vans running about belching out black smoke, gotta be way worse than a 200SX with a decat FFS.

Calm down, Flower. There's been plenty of posts suggesting VOSA are checking for decatted cars, however how many people have ACTUALLY been subject to such a check? Plenty of people have HEARD that's what VOSA / Police are doing or have mate who was stopped to check for a decat, but I'd rather hear the truth as opposed to speculation or scaremongering. These multi agency checks are hardly headline news. VOSA / Police carry out these checks on a daily basis to address the very issues you got your panties in a twist over. Why not wait for some facts before blowing a gasket?

I'd love for VOSA to stop me, my Skyline has to be majorly suspicious for being de-catted, it's also so low you can't see under.

Had to laugh when vosa stopped me and wanted to dip the tank on my discovery, no matter how hard I tried to tell them that they were wasting their time, pointing to the V8 badge, LPG tank and unleaded only sticker, only when they removed the petrol cap and smelt it did they believe me! I also got the copper to turn it around in the smallest carpark around due to me telling them that I wasn't going to pull into it due to me having the biggest ifor williams tipper trailor that they do attached to it and they would have to do it for me as it was a stupid idea for me to pull in took him 15 mins to do it whilst we all stood and laughed

As you point out, good to see that VOSA are checking the vehicles favoured by those who evade duty on fuel. Even better that they check the tank as opposed to the badge / sticker which is easily changed to dupe the naive. Shows they're doing their job properly

lol checking to see if the cat is fitted, that really on works at idle and light load/revs hence the mot testing is done then, when the stoichiometric ratio is at point which gives the cleanest burn

the rest of the time - which is most of the time the cats fcking usless

The only time I have ever been stopped by vosa was the day I passed my mot on my sti. The police checked my insurance whilst vosa checked my emissions, and because I did not get all arsey they did not bother to check my rear tints Although they did say they looked rather dark.

I know some people however who take getting stopped as a personal sleight, and in turn get their cars getting the go over with a fine toothed comb.

I do agree however the emissions test is bollox.

Check them for what? There's no law on how dark you can go on windows at the rear of the car, only windows forward of the b pillar..

The cars or the drivers? Or preferably both?

So what happens if they test you and you fail ? you get told to mot the car within a certain time ?

Surely they are only checking for emissions, no for the presence of a cat, as they cant see the downpipe ??

Since the law requires cars to pass the emissions test, it follows that if your car is decatted then they would have a right to take it off the road. Whether they would or not is hard to say.

At least I imagine that they would check documentation as well and so would catch out the uninsured and unlicensed drivers. No one can complain at that!

Was pulled in my MK2 Escort earlier this year. Policeman was a young thicko who should have been behind a desk. Knew NOTHING about cars!!!!
I was asked about not having a Cat, It's a 1978 car!!! Emissions run at 10% but he was unsure of the year where cars were exempt (1975) So I told him 1980....................
Wanted to know why I didn't have any air filters and why the car was so loud!
In the end I was told to go on my way (Quietly)
