sorry to hear that mate
my misses got caught doing 43 in a 30 .. she got 3 points and £90 fine she was 13mph over..
you proabably looking at 6 points and £200+ fine.. you were 27mph over..
When I got caught doing 101 in a 70 (motorway) I got 6 points 3 weeks ban and £285 fine.. I was 31mph over
So you shouldn't get a ban unless you have points already..
But to be honest mate it depends if the judge got out of bed on the right side the day you go to court as they just make it up as they go along... Lets hope they don't get over-taken by some nutter in a scoob on the to the court house
good luck

Ali,
Doesn't look good. They usually work it on a percentage of how much over the limit you are. As you were nearly 100% over I suspect it will be nasty magistrate stuff although you come just under the 30mph more than the limit.
See below:
Speeding/Exceeding the speed limit (SP30)
Offence
Driving on a road exceeding the prescribed speed limit
Maximum penalty
Fine not exceeding one thousand pounds
Endorsement with 3-6 penalty points
Discretionary disqualification
Comment
If you are doing more than 30mph over limit you are very likely to be disqualified depending on speed, road traffic conditions, weather etc.
If you are offered a fixed penalty option, and you are guilty then you are probably best to take this option, as your licence will be endorsed with the minimum number of penalty points and the fine (currently £60) is likely to be less than that imposed by the court. There will also be no court fees.
Possible defences are that you were not speeding, that it was not you driving, or that you were driving an exempted vehicle in an emergency.
The evidence to convict you must come from at least two different sources, although one of these may be mechanical such as the police car's speedometer/radar gun/VASCAR. Under s20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act (as amended by s23 of the Road Traffic Act 1991) where a radar device is used the police merely need to provide a record produced by the prescribed device AND (in the same or a separate document) a certificate as to the circumstances in which the record was produced, signed by constable or authorised person.

Not going to be the most popular response. But I agree with you. You cant pretend you don't know the rules and then moan when you get caught.

Ali,
Not a dig at you. Just all the people who feel sorry for you.
I like many other get tired of seeing the board cluttered with posts from people too lazy to use a search engine such as google though.
I am familiar with the phrase. That's why I don't see the point in this post.

I got caught going 52mph in a 30 and later received an invitation to attend court. Declined and asked that they deal with it without me (having submitted mitigating evidence). Received 5 points and £180 fine. Always get a letter from your employer stating that the business will suffer if you lose your license, as this helps. Add that to the 6 points I already had.... Then I bought a Scooby!!

I was unfortunate to get done for doing 66mph on a 40mph road, I thought that this stretch of Dual carriageway was 60mph.. I was wrong..
I got 6 points and a trip t court with a £105 fine to finish it off and I lost a days pay attending.
Check out the link below it will tell you more.

While we are on the subject of speeding I got stopped 3 weeks ago for 110mph on the motorway.
Received a caution on the spot but haven't got a NIP yet. As the site lawontheweb states unless you get a NIP within 2 weeks you should be OK.
Does anyone know if the caution is inplace of a NIP ?

Personally I'd write asking for the evidence..
also if the date of incident is over 2weeks ago then send it back and say tough too late as must be issued within 14days.
I got 3points and £40 in 1993 for 60 in a 30 but things have changed... I thought the dual carrigeway was 60 doh..
The Blade - Were you told you have the right to remain silent? if not then I believe you were just told off and let off mate.
Did he say expect something in the post etc.. did he write down you name and address?
It is 6months for a court summons if you were cautioned and the rest of it...
PS: What Blade do you have? or are you a vampire fan? Blade 2 is cool...

Blade,
Service of summons or notice of intended prosecution
In circumstances in which an oral notice is not given at the time, then either a summons or a written notice of intended prosecution must be served within 14 days.
From http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/Rules_useage/The_Law.htm
Hope this helps, but aren't you moving abroad anyway?

Bros,
thought that might be the case. He cautioned me and told me to expect a summons in the post. I assume then a NIP is mainly for Gatso offences where they don't actually stop you and let you know you have committed an offence.
JGM - I haven't got a Blade just got the nickname due to my prowess at golf when playing against my old boss.
Ali - Yes I am moving next week so I hope when I tell them this they may just forget the whole thing, the plod who stopped me said that this was a possibility lets hope so.

Well if you are moving abroad it will never get delivered to you which might cause problems.. summons never replied to and you never appearing in court etc..
if you manage to receive it just send off plead by post and who cares what the result is.. although saying that you might then have to take a driving test in the country you are moving too as the UK licence would then be banned (possibly)?

Blade,
You might be lucky mate, but either way it shouldn't effect you driving abroad. I wish you luck mate, although im not allowed to offer you sympathy
My boss is from Poland and he has two licences, one for the UK and one for poland. If ever he gets stopped in this country he just shows his polish licence and they let him go. Git!
All the best with the move mate.

JGM2 - I was thinking of ringing the rozzers the day before I leave and informing them of the fact that I am moving to hopefully avoid being arrested should I ever return and that is when they tell me they are dropping the case
