People like this give Scooby drivers a bad name
#1
I wasn't in my Subaru yesterday otherwise I dread to think what this driver would have done if he had seen another Subaru on the road cos what he did was bad enough!
I was in my 'run around' with my kids in the back of the car when in a 30mph zone, out of nowhere comes a red Subaru, starts to tailgate me, looking for an opening to overtake by weaving in and out to try and get past. He must have been doing at least 50mph to 60mph to catch me up as I was doing a steady 30 and there was no one behind me until in a matter of seconds, a red dot got bigger and bigger until I thought he was going to go in the back of my car.
Anyway this lunactic turns off obviously to speed through another 30mph as I was delaying him. However 2 or 3 miles on, he was sitting in a queue waiting to get back on the road that I had travelled on. So lo and behold, there he was again, 2 or 3 cars behind, tailgating them one by one, overtaking without a care, with cars approaching on the other side of the road, having to take action to avoid a head on crash.
By now we get onto a 60mph zone, still single carriageway, then he puts his foot down, overtakes about 7 cars including me and at the last moment dives in, causing all the cars to suddenly slam their brakes on. Then on a blind hill, he tries to overtake again, this time a whole line of cars, as I approach the top of the hill, I see a lorry flashing like mad as the red subaru is flying straight at him. Then once again, he pulls sharply back in after giving the lorry drive a heart attack and several angry exchanges and then pulls away at speeds that would have been approaching 90mph.
The driver in question was around 25 to 30ish with short blond shaven hair. His car has the word prodrive on the left of the boot, the colour of the car was red, it had gold wheels, and the registration was N*** **A. The road in question was the A695 from just outside Stocksfield, all the way along to Blaydon.
If you are reading this, sell your car mate, you don't know how to drive it, plus give up driving completely until you have matured before you kill yourself or worse still, some poor motorist and his passengers. If any police officers are reading this, then watch out for this car, he needs to be spoken to.
People like this can give us Subaru drivers or whatever high performance car they are driving a bad name. The press are all too keen to jump on the bandwagon when a high performance machine like ours is involved in a crash. It is the people who drive like this who are to blame, it is not the car. True he could have been in any car and I would have been mad, but to see him in a model that I own made me feel even worse.
What do other people think?
P.S. I have included his reg plate as I think he needs to be named and shamed. I too would expect my plate to be shown if I was driving like this. Moderators feel free to edit out key parts of his plate but no doubt when he causes an accident, his plate will all be too visible on his red car wrapped around a tree or worse still, ploughed into another car.

I agree name and shame.
Too many incidents, too much bad publicity.
For once I agree with the take it on track policy.
I for one have learnt to slow down on public roads...........the risk is too high..........

Maybe the car wasn't his? I mean you can see by the threads on this site that Scoobs and all other performance cars are being stolen all the time. What a total ****.
#6
What a pr1ck. Maybe it was stolen? Surely there's no other reason that anyone would drive like that
I hate to say it but in years to come there will be more incidents like this as the "boy racers" who currently drive modified Novas, Escorts etc recklessly are able to afford the older scoobys
edited cos my spelling is bad as this persons driving

Very good point ash1
But if it WAS his car, FFS in a 30!!! Even I have the patience to sit there and go with the flow, and I have a notoriously heavy right foot..........
I have had too many close calls, one day it won't be, so I have slowed down............there is a time and place for fast driving and the track days aren't that expensive really.............
People who say they are and insist on driving fast on public roads..........if you kill someone whilst driving at speed, can you put a price on the loss of their life? Or yours?
(Editted so it makes more sense )

Although this guy was driving recklessly I don't think it's upto you to name and shame him m8, as someone said the owner might not of been driving.
There has been times when I have gone on hol's and left my bro in charge of the car, I know he took it to show his brother in law and took him for a spin he probably gave it some. Even though this is not in the same way as this fool you mention, him booting it/overtaking could be seen as a name and shame crime. Would that be fair on me to post my reg on a public bbs???
No doubt he was driving foolishly but untill you know all the facts I wouldnt post the reg.;D
Just my thoughts.

Anyway you look at it, the bloke was driving like a dick. It must of been bad to have made someone post the topic. At the end of the day its just lucky nobody was hurt, lets hope the owner of the red scooby gets to hear about the thread and realises what a complete prat he has been.

Just like to add that there have been a couple of people knocked over and killed on that road. The last one very recent as flowers by the side of the road yesterday had just been laid. Surely anyone passing would have seen this poignant reminder and slowed down. Did he, NO, it was just after this point, that he took on 7 cars and a lorry..............!!!

I suggest popping into your local Police station and quickly filling out a dangerous driving allegation form. Takes 5 minutes, they are likely to send a Traffic Unit around to have a word with him and that might make him realise what hes done.
Just a thought.

Action of this kind is totally reckless & agree with most of the comments. However, I dont think it is right to post reg numbers (as others rightly say that the car could be stolen or someone else other than the owner could have been driving). You could be putting a caring driver in a bad position by posting the reg number (especially if the car had been stolen). What would happen next time the caring driver (after recovering his vehicle after theft) come across someone reading this post ? Probably a lot of abuse even though no fault of his own.
If you feel strongly enough then report the incident to the police.
At least they would be able to investigate & prosecute the relevant driver if enough evidence was collected.

I agree with the naming and shaming of such unworthy drivers it is a sin for such a person to be behind a steering wheel not alone a beloved scooby. If anyone sees IT (the driver) let IT know that we do not condone such antics. If you know the driver be kind and get them a provisional license for Xmas or one of those remote controlled battery operated ones

I am going to report the driver to the police, in fact I might do it tonight. Onto the points raised over the reg plate.
(1) If my car had been stolen and it had been spotted and someone posted the plate on this board, then at least I would know where the car was and I could ask further questions to the person who saw it. Plus the police would have a lead and hopefully a description of the driver, and there might be a good chance of an arrest. So in this case, posting the reg plate is a good idea.
(2) If I had given the keys to someone else, not that I would, then I found out the car had been driven dangerously then I would want to know to ensure that the person never drove my car again.
Again, posting the reg plate has served a purpose.
(3) If I was driving around like a nutter and my reg was posted for all to see, then I would be very ashamed. Rightly so!. Once again the posting of the plate would be a public humiliation to the person involved.
So if in the future I see anyone driving with no regard to other road users, I will report them, plus if they happen to be driving one of our beloved models, then I will post their plate on here.
Does anyone know whether the owner of this car is a SIDC member?
Does anyone know the car, it's history?
Very soon whoever the owner is, they will be receiving a call from the men in blue.....I'm just off to phone the police....

Phone call made.
The police can actually do nothing except take his plate and watch out for him. He could be prosecuted if I am willing to go to court and enough evidence is gathered.
What next....?

According to you the driver should be named & shamed but if you dont go to court you will never know who was driving as the Police cant/wont/dont want to do anything without you willing to go to court. So you must go to court.
#22
The son of a friend of mine did the same thing, i.e. reported someone for dangerous driving. The police took it seriously - enough to successfully prosecute the guy - and this person was told he would only have to appear in court if the driver denied the allegations. Apparently the driver was already known to the police.

Ok, one day your out having a bit of a blat in your scoob you get a bit giddy and overtake me at speed, even though you overtook me and you see no danger I could see this as reckless. Does this give me the right to post your reg??
If I borrowed the car to someone and they drove a bit mad i still would not want my reg posted that is my right you are taking this away.
Yes the guy is a danger but still think your playing judge and jury without knowing any of the facts, just cos you would like your reg posted on a public bbs doesnt mean to say everyone feels the same.

The word 'knocker' springs to mind. There is a time and place for driving quickly - and a 30mph zone is NOT IT. It should be saved for the track but reckless driving as described above shouldn't be saved for here either ... people like this should be allowed behind the wheel. 'nough said.

not wanting to deliberately pour fuel on the flames or in any way condone this sort of driving, but just thought would play devils advocate for a while
But i don't think naming and shaming is a particularly good idea when you do not know the full circumstances involved,
how do you know they guys wife had not just gone into labour or suffered some accident and was lying in hospital?
or his child?
Seeing as how i've had a few dashes too hospitals in the last two pregnancies its easy enough to say 'oo you just drive calmly and get there eventually' but when your sitting at work 100 miles away and you get 'that' call, rational thought seems to depart with it.

I dont see how anyone could condone the sort of driving described on this post even if it was due to the reasons you mention.
I think that posting reg numbers without knowing the full facts is the wrong thing to do.

oi tarmac, try reading before you post biting my head off, i said i do NOT condone it, i was merely putting across a point i did not feel had been covered.
but i do not think its good practice for someone to decide what is poor driving and put there reg number on here e.g. someone does something i don't like so i post there number on here.
I know what i would do if my number got quoted and i saw the post.
As for not agreeing in the circumstances I quoted, well i've been 100 miles away and got a phone call from a nurse/hospital saying my wife needed me and things were not going well with labour.
I did not drive there particularly sensibly, i defy anyone to try.

I never intended to have a go & was certainly not biting your head off. Just merely mentioned that driving like described on this post could not be condoned whatever the reasons. I can also accept that people will drive outside the limits due to the reasons you mention. If my wife was pregnant & in difficulty I would probably do the same in trying to get to the hospital as quick as I could, BUT NOT driving like this post has mentioned. The driver of the red scooby was driving like he had just nicked the car (bl**dy dangerous).
