*** Ring of Cambridge run *** - FINAL DETAILS
#1
Right... just got back from a proper recce of the new route. Big big thanks to Grahame (May) for all the help (some 5 hrs ) - definitely a joint effort!
The route is now some 85 miles, so two good stints of about 40 minutes! Lots more open road and hopefully fewer 30mph zones.
For those who didn't take part last time, this is a trip circling Cambridge without using any A-roads (give or take the odd few 100 yards ). We start at one pub - The Royal Oak, Barrington - for 'car inspection' and lunch then do half the ring around Cambridge clockwise to The Plough at Fen Ditton, where we stop for coffee or whatever. After a bit, the ring is closed by continuing round clockwise back to Barrington.
Last time was a great success, with over a dozen Scoobies and a couple of Evo's turning up (and no crashes) - very enjoyable way of spending an afternoon. Started about 11:30am last time, ended about 4pm.
Everything is in the pace notes, and we try to send people out in groups with someone with a co-driver at the front. There will be a few modifications this time to try and eliminate a couple more 30mph zones
The Royal Oak at Barrington (start and end point) is doing a buffet that day - you pay up front (about £6.95) and can then go up and get your food from the buffet counter as many times as you want. Sounds like a nice easy way of getting food without any real waiting!
The date for this is Sunday 26th August with a timetable of (roughly):
11:30am People start turning up at the first pub, for 'car inspection'
12:00 Pub opens and we can get drinks and food.
1:00pm (ish) Start going round the first leg, followed by coffee on arrival at the half-way point
2:15pm Second leg, followed by optional coffee or dessert back at the start
We can all then head off when we're ready.

I'll probably be along for lunch or the mid-afternoon pit stop - I'm rowing in the morning and have put on (yet another) set of brake discs and pads, so I don't think they'll have bedded in enough for a "relaxed" tour of the Cambridgeshire countryside just yet....
See you Sunday,
Chris

Excellent... so we can add an appearance from an Evo VI (Warped Chris). I'll keep the list at the top updated...
Hopefully the new Shell SUL fuel will be ready by that time. If so, the Shell garage in Harston should have it in (hopefully) - basically head straight up the A10 and it's on the main road.
Good point on fuel - could everyone make sure they're filled up first? Ta!
Cheers

oh poo.
I knew there was something special about the 26th August and that I shouldnt arrange anything on that date...could remember what though so I went and organised a Supra meet starting at 2pm near Lakeside.
Bugger, whenever the next one is I will keep the date free.
I will see if any of the local Supras fancy popping along, but I think most of them are heading down the m11 and round the m25 for the Supra meet.

All you boys & girls who need SUL be warned that other than the Shell garage at Harston, there ain't none on the ROC route - during the recce we had to go search for the stuff but no joy - Richard, hope you've now reset the PPP ECU
See ya all on Sunday

Great, coming on a treat then! Branners, by all means pass on the details to some of the Supra guys and if you're around later on you could meet us back at the Royal Oak in Barrington.
Having a Cobra on the route would be awesome
Regarding petrol - the Shell in Harston will definitely be selling the new stuff from tomorrow - in fact he said the tanks got filled yesterday, and I filled up tonight. Pesky NUL (emergency one-third fill on Sunday) means only 15psi boost at the mo until I do a reset again tomorrow
Richard
PTMW - soon...

I might make it along depending on how my decorating is coming along on Sunday and the weather.
I drive a Westie now - I assume I can still attend, I still have a soft spot for scoobies.

We can't make the run as previously planed, but I would like to post a word of advise.
A very close friend of mine is a copper, so I am in the know. Firstly, be aware that the police have access to view this and other BBS just as we do. So it's not beyond possibility that they have knowledge of the run. Stick to the speed limits. The sight of 8+ Subaru's going past IS very eye catching, so give no one (cops or public) any chance of getting you for 'racing on the highway'.
Its a very serious offence, and only needs two independent wittiness to prove. The penalty’s are as severe as for drunk driving, and the police take it very seriously, believe me I know.
Have fun, but don't attract attention.

Shame you can't make it
Agree wholeheartedly with what you say. This is a nice family day out and we don't want this and future events marred by silliness.
I also understand that you don't actually have to be a part of the group that was doing the "racing" bit, but just having been part of the meeting is enough. So collective responsibility is the name of the game.
See y'all tomorrow folks - I'm off to wash PTMW!

Good point.
My views are well known on this, I know Richard and Grahame take it seriously, and the riot act is normally read before we set off.
As Puff says, it's a matter of individual responsibility.

Well said guys - got there before I did (too busy moving house at the moment!). Nothing to add really - last time was a great day out with some intelligent driving with lots of fun - which is the idea after all!
Let's just hope there are no casualties on the way to the meet like last time
See you all tomorrow! Promises to be a cracker of a day too, with the weather being like it is...

Nice one - I suppose you condemn football matches and all who attend or organize them because of a few people who cause incidents.
Full marks to those who put in the time and effort to let people enjoy themselves.
If all you can do is criticize and try to put down events that are a great success to the vast majority of those involved you need to get a life mate !

Ouch - a little harsh Stan!!
In answer to scoobynutta555, I'd point out that on the Ring of Cambridge run (first time) there were no crashes. However, on the way to the meet up at the start, there were two crashes. If people drive like that to get to a drive-around, then that's their prerogative, but I always ask people to take it more sensibly on anything I organise, and so far everyone has. The same again has been true today - very sensible driving (see comments in the new thread) but we all had a great time, as was evident by all the smiles when we got out of our cars
So relax guys! And enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend.
Cheers
Richard
