Default Prison

I know this is probably a stupid question but Im gonna ask as Ive never been to prison and hopfully never will.

Im wondering - say you get sentenced for X amount of time what happens with your house, bills etc..

Is there any grace or is that it you loose everything?

depends if you own your house. You still have to pay the mortgage or they take the house.
Stop paying bills and services get cut off.

Noone is gonna let you off cos you were naughty.

Mr impreza's wish list in prison would be a yard that had some sheep instead of gym equipment

Let's face my non-pc factoids.

There are only two types of people who go to Jail.

A) Chavscum, dole-sponging, socially housed, ****-kickers
B) White Collar "Think they can outsmart the System" Types

The A's won't have a care in the world - no rent to pay, no bills - will leave to get another home paid for by the hard pressed tax payer.

The B's "Should" have had enough sense to sorted out the finances to keep things ticking along during their stint in pokey. If not - Fvck 'em.

You certainly get no "grace", however contrary to popular belief, most debtors will not persue the debt for the period your inside. It not possible to get their money, so they wont bill you, they will add the interest to the loan though.

1st thing to do is contact your debtors. Tell them the circumstance and they will for the most part allow you to not pay for the period of your sentence. No point persueing debts when your in jail.
This includes morgage companies contrary to popular belief. However if your spouse is on the morgage and they are'nt in klink, they are responsible for the debt, hence a "joint loan".

Aside the morgage if you consider it this way:

If you do nothing and they try and take money that is'nt there when your released your debt will be so enourmous you WILL get a CCJ in your favor, or go bankrupt. This means your debtors get next to nothing. If they are reasonable, and you are they will get the full amount, just need to wait longer for it.

You cut off your ammeneties if your home is empty. This is the real world, and unless your in for a decade you will come out to your home, still being yours.

TRUST ME.

How about the C ?types.....guys goes out for a drink with his bird, bloke chats his bird up, wont leave her alone, despite the "C type" asking for him to get lost. The C leaves the pub, but the "bloke" follows, asking more questions about his bird. In the end, you guessed it the C hits the bloke for handling his mrs. The bloke falls hitting his head on the pavement. The Mrs, well she cries, C gets done for ABH with intent for 18 months, a sentance that is later reduced to ABH, for 9 months. Bloke gets 200hrs community service for nothing more than un social behavour....perhaps, just PERHAPS, we dont know EVERYTHING about a given situation.

I'm VERY concious there will be lots of your catoagory A type's out there, and B types..... but there are also many C's, and D's, and E's....you get it...

I did once spend a night in Monte Carlo gaol, not of my own choice of course!

They were very pleasant though,in the evening the copper asked if I had a franc on me and when I gave it to him he came back with a Jambon and a bottle of beer.

I put it down to experience.

I'd put C in the same class as A.
There's no such offence as ABH with intent by the way.

Initial sentence was GBH, reduced to ABH.....typed wrong.

It is possible to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or with the wrong people.

When/ if your there, lets hope the officer or judge does'nt work on the same catagorising system as you do.

What do people do to secure their property while they're inside?

Just double lock the door and hope nobody notices there's been nobody home for months on end??

Judge and jury applies to everyone tried on indictment in the UK.
"Hits the bloke" is an assault, not "un social behaviour" as you put it.
Acted in self defence might be a better term to use.
As you quite rightly point out,
we dont know EVERYTHING about a given situation.
An old saying, " Discretion is the better part of valour" springs to mind in the scenario you mention.

Probably rent it out to give them an income whilst they are out of circulation.
