It's about a 2.5 hour drive each way from me and my new car needs running in so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. I'll take some pics and post them up for the fellow scoobynet av geeks

As much as I love homecinema and hifi, I couldn't think of anything more less appealing that going to a AV/HiFi Show. Whoever goes, play the game of counting how many made-up words the Reps use whilst describing their products and also check out how many "real" words are used to describe something without actually describing anything at all.

That link is a great temptation, only 90 mins away, shame i'm busy.
I wouldn't go to listen to any rep, I'd be to engrossed looking at and listening to the equipment, walking around spending those "what if you won the lottery thousands" whilst drolling over some serious equipment
I'd probably come away wanting 7 pairs of speakers and 10 different amps
Is it an annual thing DingDongler ?

Yes Funki it's an annual thing. I've been thinking about going for a few years but never quite got around to it, this weekend I'm not working and don't have anything else planned.
I'm with you though, I have no interest in listening to reps. I want to look/listen at the stuff that you would never usually get all under one roof in one go.

We did the Bristol show a few years ago..We had a room there, but it was a nightmare as far as organisation and management goes.
Heathrow and Manchester are much better.

this'll be the first year since 1999 i won't be going which is a shame, as I live in hope that one year naim might manage to produce a passable sound at the show. God knows they havent managed it for the last decade

I went a few years ago when Naim launched their Cinema AV. The sound was AWFUL It was turned up so loud it was clipping!!
I think it was that show where they launched the 552, using a 500 and SL2s. That was a good sound.

No probs j4mou, so it's the optoma 3d projector you are interested in? I'll try and compare it to other 3d projectors they have there.
On the more general topic I have heard that things are often not set up properly and so it's not a true auditioning environment, but I'd like to hear what they've got rigged up to my speakers

Jam. Yes I had a look for you and spoke to the guy running the room. It is slightly difficult for me to comment as I'm not a huge fan of 3d, i hate wearing the glasses and find the picture is dark and colours unnatural.
For the optoma they were playing that animated film with owls, can't remember the name. Yes it was 3d but as I've not seen that film before its difficult to know how good a job it was doing of it. On the whole I wasn't overly impressed by the picture, but whether that was the fault of the optoma or tge way the film was made i don't know.
My advice would be don't buy it until you have seen it with your own eyes, its not a clear cut decision imho.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but to give a proper opinion i would have had to see a film that i had already seen before, if that makes sense.

Funny you should say that. I've never heard audio note gear before and was gobsmacked by the sound in that room, it was awesome. I have never heard vocals like it, and told the rep it was the best sounding room and he said everybody had been saying the same thing.
They had audionote speakers being run by two 4 watt amps!!
The thing is though, and I went back to the room about 5 times, they only played a very certain kind of music ie acoustical. So a few singers and just a small amount of instruments. I would have been interested to see how it sounded with more 'regular' music ie pop, rock, dance etc.
I will look into the brand more.
The pmc room sounded good until they put the bigger speakers on and then the bass went bloomy, that of course may well have been down to the poor room acoustics. I'm hoping to get a home demo of a Bryston 4bsst soon
The B + W room sounded good but again was only playing similar music to the audionote room, no dance rnb etc
Wilson Benesch room also sounded good

Sure some are producing an all in one box with the hard drive, pre and power all together. But the high end brands still all have these as separate boxes.
Many were using a stand alone DAC and had a cd transport and hard drive based system feeding into this. Then of course there were some lovely looking turntables!
