Weather forecasts are DOING MY HEAD IN!
They just change from day to day.
Surely the weather situation isn't changing as fast as all that? After all, they kep saying it's relatively stable.
So WHY has the forecvast for the 28th here in Scunny gone from-4 to +6 to -1 with no snow, rain and snow? respectively?
Have they ANY idea? At all?

IMHO the met office haven't been doing too well with our local forecast recently (normally they are ok) but netweather.tv have been a hell of alot more accurate

Met Office 0830 Tuesday. "Heathrow will get 1cm if snow between 12 & 3pm"
Met Office 1230 Tuesday. "Heathrow may get 1cm of snow around 5pm"
Met Office 1630 Tuesday. "Heathrow has missed the snow which has tracked north. Stansted us going to get 5-10cms.
I phone my colleague at STN 0800 Wednesday. "How much snow mate?" says I?
"Nothing" he replies.
Great isn't it.

To be honest the UK is a tricky part of the world to get the weather forecast right, seen as how we are an island with a large land mass to the right and large sea area to the left .... However, you'd think from the bilge put out by the Met Office that they could forecast months into the future with great accuracy and also, with help from their famous computer models, predict the weather/climate/lottery 10 years hence!
However, they are still as cr*p as they were in the 70s. I was mad keen on fishing in the 70s as a teenager and, as it was Cornwall and sea fishing the weather forecast was almost mandatory. In those days you could actually ring the Met Office and ask for a forecast for your local area. If you got the forecast the night before it was usually fairly good, though you'd get used to the fact that if they said there'd be rain coming in about 3pm it'd arrive sometime about 8am on .... However, in the 35 years since they seem to have made no progress in weather forecasting. Having moved back here a couple of years ago the only forecast I treat as *could be fairly accurate* is the one I used in the 70s - the one from the night before!
Dave
PS: my old man used to be in the merchant navy and he said recently that if they had a forecast of a gale coming up they'd usually be in the middle of it by then! That was the late 50s/60s.

The Met Office are a worthless bunch of jokers and if this government were serious about austerity measures they would close it down and buy in the weather forecasting from a third party who can actually do the job.

Best way to forecast the weather is with a length of string, thus -
You hang the string outside, and you check it when you want to know what's going on with the weather.
* If the string is flexible, it's warm.
* If the string is stiff, it's cold.
* If the string is wet, it's raining.
* If the string is wet and stiff, it's sleeting.
* If the string is wet, stiff, and white, it's snowing.
* If the string is moving, it's windy.
* If the string is not seen, it's foggy.
