This is China so not that surprising.

From a selfish perspective I'm more concerned about the one in the UK: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-20022722-71.html

They don't like any form of criticism, very much like the Eu commissioners!

Im not saying it is right but firstly Twitter is banned in China, hence just by using it she was breaking the law. Secondly, she is seemingly a Human rights activist - not a popular occupation according to the Chinese authorities.
China is a completely different culture where western thinking on freedoms and human rights simply do not apply.

Things are monitored but mostly ignored.

In this particular instance someone who saw the tweet reported it to the Police.

Chinese are just weird.

Everything they do is weird

And their writing is as Karl Pilkington said - it just looks like someone is testing a biro

Although sometimes very wrong, the mere fact that they have hard labour as a punishment does make me think they have some things right.

A few days ago there was a prog on TV, about people making fake passports - 2 blokes had made hundreds of thousands from bringing illegal’s into the UK with fake passports over a 10 year period.

Massive operation at tax payers expense to catch them, and of course we now support the people that came in illegally... anyway at the end, one guy gets 18 months, the other 2 years. Thats it. For £500k+ in fraud and god knows what else (they had obtained money from banks etc etc also).

So let me get this straight; Twitter is banned in China (nothing against that ). And tehy'll jail you for defying the law. Fine.

So why the hell don't they jail all the spammers that spam Western forums with the crappy "convert/Rip/ DVD to your iPod" software?

(ps I did ask for Scoobynet powers that be to ban all of China, but apparently thats a no-go )
