Default Evel Knievel, Robbie Knievel, Eddie Kidd, Chris Bromham. Who was the best ?

I remember when i was growing up i was fascinated by Evil Knievel, i then followed Eddie Kidd and went to watch him jump live at a local park near to where i live. You then have the likes of Robbie Knievel who followed on from his dad and a name that won't be familiar to a lot of people which is Chris Bromham who i think still hold one of the motorbike ramp to ramp jump records.

I was catching up with some of their jumps on youtube recently, its amazing what Evil Knievel chieved on an old bike and for me he has to go down as the best ramp to ramp jump rider in history.

Fair play to Robbie Knievel though on his jump at Ceasers palace over the water fountains, its a jump which had previously seriously injured both Gary Wells and Evil Knievel.

Robbie Maddison has to be in the mix as well, this was some jump.

You wimmins only ever think of one thing...........

Agree about his accident though, looked trivial compared to some others.

How is Eddie Kidd these days? He seemed like a really nice & likeable guy and it was horrible and unthinkable what happened to him

Nowt wrong with liking men
Oh and yes, you are correct, we only think of one thing
Going back to the OP, Eddie Kidd was superb. Such a shame the way it ended, but he did what he did and knew the risks. Was one of my favourites.

btw, sorry to digress, but what was the name of the racing biker, a similar era, who also had a sad fate Bugger, I can't remember but can see his face

He got married recently, he managed to walk down the isle whilst aided by a friend, that must of took immense effort. Of the modern motorbike stuntmen Eddie Kiid was my favourite, as well as being an incredible stuntman he is also a likeable person. It was tragic what happened to him, it was a freak accident.

Eddie Kidd getting married.

I knew he was in a bad way after his accident but I didn't realise he was still that bad That's extremely sad because he seemed to really enjoy what he was doing and his accident was a silly one by stunt standards but I guess he was just unlucky

Coming down from that would have sh*t me up far more than jumping up it! (Not that I'd do any of them )

But it has to be Evil, I had the wind up toy

Real men, ok, it may be misty rose tinted spectacles but we used to have larger than life characters in F1, Superbikes and jumping over stuff, real heros but where have they gone, Jenson Button seems fun but he is no James Hunt, Lewis Hamilton seems computer generated.

There will never be anyone as mad as Evel was The bikes are built for it, his bikes were rubbish lol!

I remember watching a documentary on Evel which was superb. He was coming to Wembley to junp some double decker buses and when he arrived he found out they had put way too many buses out to jump. But because it had been built up like that he said he would do it lol! He did it and landed badly the other side and ended up in hospital again, absolutely insane

Q. "Well what in the hell do you expect me to do? give them their money back?" complete loon with no fear, gotta love him for that. remember also though evel was jumping tourers, harleys etc. just not made for the job, whereas everyone else was using lighteight off road bikes. another Q from the E.K. doc. "with Evel, he would just pull back the throttle, hit the ramp, and accept the hand God dealt him" ................. if you had not guessed it, my childhood hero

Evel has to the best. He was the original stunt hero. The rest are just wannabe's. Back in his day, it was all done by dead reckoning and many mistakes were made. Nowadays motorcycle stunts may be bigger and better, however everything is calculated to the tiniest detail on computers, and the bikes are purpose built.
I met Eddie Kidd a few years ago. He was able to ride a quad bike unaided. He is an amazing guy. He'll never give up trying.
Why has Sheene been mentioned? He was a racer, not a stunt rider. I took a bit of a dislike to the guy when I saw him at Silverstone (1978 I think). It started raining during the race, and Sheene's pit crew were slower than Kenny Robert's at changing the tyres, losing the race for him. At the end of the race, as Sheene approached his pit garage, he jumped off, and deliberately let the bike run into his pit crew.

Barry Sheene died of cancer a few years back so i think you are a bit confused Lee.

Wayne Rainey i presume you are talking about. multiple 500cc world cahampion who was paralysed after a crash at Misano in 1993
