What about those people who come round our local & collect for charity in those little tins? Great cause although they're always p*ssing themselves with laughter when they leave

Its nice to see such a high percentage going to the charities. All to often these days you hear of some charities where very little actually goes to the good cause that it was meant for.

You should also wonder on 'what' the charities are spending money on!

Very good point Dave, but I wonder how we can find them all out.
Glad to see such good percentages going to charities in Pete's list. There must be a lot of good being done anyway.

Part of the reason why I stopped running for charities, combined with at least 3 of the charities Pete mentions living off account (i.e. having so much that they fund their activities from interest payments from their investments - my source used to manage one of the aboves accounts).
That said, I'll be "Santa Dashing" in aid of my local cancer hospice.

I only give money to 'tangible' charities i.e when I see some person collecting who looks like an old dear or someone else similarly trustworthy etc. Then I'll put a couple of quid in.
Also like the lifeboats.
Totally despise the charities who use those street mugger *******.

The lottery collect a huge sum allegedly much going to good causes. I think the tickets should have an extra box with say half a dozen choices and you tick the one that you support. Should be easy enough for their laptop to sort out. dl

I am surprised it is that high. I worked for two charities years ago as an IT trainer (they bought our software) and they were shockingly wasteful.
Someone above mentions that they pay well, my experience was that they didn't pay that well but hired several people to do a simple job and all of those people did the job very badly. Which means they would then hire an incompetent manager to look after them.
It put me off giving any money to charity at all.

I would have thought that anyone who was harassing the public was not to be trusted anyway.
Never heard of charity collectors being paid before. Mrs Leslie is a poppy seller and she would not accept any money for her efforts let alone having had anything offered to her.
