Cement Mixer lands on train !
Bloody hell, what are the chances of a train passing as he ploughed through the bridge wall.
Probably better that it landed on the train rather than the tracks causing a derailment and probable fatalities.

On the news reports there are 4 or 5 'clean' patches on the wall, which if, are from the mixer puts the mixer on the wrong side of the road for quite a few yards before it went through. That would say to me mechanical error or blowout. Or the driver has not been awake/conscious at the time.
All just geuss work of course.

It's not that straight, plus there is lots of greenery around and it's on a rise (with a hill to the north), there are traffic lights just at the southern end of the bridge.
I can't see any report on which direction he was travelling. But I'd say that if you are going South over and then down that hillock with a full load and you suddenly come over the crest to see cars stopped at the lights (and you may only be partially sighted due to the slight bend + greenery), you're going to have a hard time stopping a loaded cement truck.

Well thats dangerous or without due care then. I think the best everyone can hope for is a blow-out causing loss of control. Any thing other than that, then there is blame to be apportioned. From being in the job my self, i can say, that the **** usually ends up stopping when it hits the driver.

As an ex-hgv driver Les, i can't see there is anything to 'get wrong' as such. It's a straight road.

I have even seen HGV drivers get it wrong in the past, they are not necessarily perfect.
I know that bit of road too and like Miniman there is certainly scope for losing it on that bridge especially with a loaded cement lorry and with a bit too much speed.
Did they say he had a burst tyre or anything else like that? They certainly said he drove through the wall of course, not down the embankment.
My friend knows the road even better than I do as well.

No Les, i was just saying that, that cause would be the only way where blame would not be layed at someones door.
