Default Cement Mixer lands on train !

Bloody hell, what are the chances of a train passing as he ploughed through the bridge wall.

Probably better that it landed on the train rather than the tracks causing a derailment and probable fatalities.

Similar happened in Anerley a few years back, double decker went through a wall dropping debris and bus parts on the passing train below. Crazy stuff

Fekking long way down in a truck

The train has probably saved the truck drivers life, a tad ironic really.

Will be interesting to find out the cause, mechanical fault, driver error, medical episode.

Just a blessing no one was killed.

Not the sort of thing you might expect to arrive on the roof.

Hope all those injured recover fully.

Single vehicle RTI apperently. Plod want witnesses who saw the truck before it left the road. Very stange as the road and bridge look pretty straight, and looking at it, i would say the mixer was empty too.

Friend of mine who lives in the area says he thinks the driver got it wrong and drove through the wall having lost control.

As an ex-hgv driver Les, i can't see there is anything to 'get wrong' as such. It's a straight road.
On the news reports there are 4 or 5 'clean' patches on the wall, which if, are from the mixer puts the mixer on the wrong side of the road for quite a few yards before it went through. That would say to me mechanical error or blowout. Or the driver has not been awake/conscious at the time.

All just geuss work of course.

Possible he could of had a bit of 'slosh' going on then, especially if he has turned right out of the T-junction a bit quick.

It's not that straight, plus there is lots of greenery around and it's on a rise (with a hill to the north), there are traffic lights just at the southern end of the bridge.

I can't see any report on which direction he was travelling. But I'd say that if you are going South over and then down that hillock with a full load and you suddenly come over the crest to see cars stopped at the lights (and you may only be partially sighted due to the slight bend + greenery), you're going to have a hard time stopping a loaded cement truck.

Well thats dangerous or without due care then. I think the best everyone can hope for is a blow-out causing loss of control. Any thing other than that, then there is blame to be apportioned. From being in the job my self, i can say, that the **** usually ends up stopping when it hits the driver.

I have even seen HGV drivers get it wrong in the past, they are not necessarily perfect.

I know that bit of road too and like Miniman there is certainly scope for losing it on that bridge especially with a loaded cement lorry and with a bit too much speed.

Did they say he had a burst tyre or anything else like that? They certainly said he drove through the wall of course, not down the embankment.

My friend knows the road even better than I do as well.

We are far from perfect Les. The driver is actually the weak link.

If he has lost it due to speed, i wouldn't want to be him.

No Les, i was just saying that, that cause would be the only way where blame would not be layed at someones door.
