Both Howlett and Port Lympne are great zoos
Not sure how far you want to travel but Longleat is brilliant, albeit the monkey drive through was shut last week as I believe they have some sort of illness. The rest of the safari park is great and there are loads of other things to do.

Come to my house this weekend. Opening times are any time, basically whenever the little monsters are awake.
Monkeys feeding times are popular, you can get up quite close to them and actually see the amount of food, crumbs and general crap that misses their mouths and ends up on the floor. Be wary of trying to feed them yourselves as it usually ends up in some lost digits. Try not to feed them greens or vegetables as any attempt will be returned with force.
The eldest two alpha males will be seen fighting, scraping and generally kicking the **** out of each other on or around the sofa area. No set times to this behaviour. You are welcome to place bets on the outcome
The female of the zoo can be seen preening herself on a regular basis, indeed it seems to take up all the day and if you are bored then I heartliy recommend you make your way over to her cage for hours of faffing.
You might spot the once proud and main alpha male of the zoo now sitting or hiding in the corner ignoring all at the zoo and just getting on with doing his own thing. He can be coaxed out at feeding times but has a bad temper so best avoided.
We hope you enjoy your stay

Bloody hell Swiss I thought you'd been round ours on a Saturday morning...it sounds just the same.
Edit, forgot the zoo link.
Not been recently but it used to be quite good. It has a theme park as well.

I would say Chester zoo.
Never go to Dudley zoo, the only thinks that makes up for it being rubbish is the fact it is also a castle, so you can sit in on talks, and live shows in the grounds.
It's a bit if a mash up, but in a dry day, it can be fun.
The problem if you have pushchairs is that it's very hilly, and although disabled abd pushchair access has been created where needed, it's still not appropriate.

We had a good day at Marwell Zoo but that was a long time ago so I don't know if it's changed for better or worse.
