Clearly it was always to be a risky operation , but they havnt exactly stood around doing nothing since

slim, very slim.
I do hope the (American) company who owns and operates the drilling rig will also shoulder some of the responsibility. By that I mean if BP where asking them to cut corners and safety procedures and they chose to do this or turn a blind eye then surely they are also to blame... I will not be holding my breath about that happening either...

Having worked for BP in the GOM, and actually been on the vessel that is being used to show the world the pictures from the seabed, I can say that out of all the companies that contract us to do work for them, they have by far the highest safety requirements.
Working for them is a pain but also a pleasure. The extra paper work, the delay in getting work done because of safety talks ec etc can make a simple task become drawn out. However, there is no price that can be put on safety and this is their main objective when we are working for them. I know many will say this is rubbish, and that money comes first with these companies. Its not the case these days.
Joe public is not being passed the full information from the "coal face" ,and as a result, the media and US government can feed the world what ever they want.
For those close to the incident and actually working on the job, the truth is not what is shown in the papers and on TV.
There will be massive changes for the industry.
What the future hold for BP, will take a little longer to unfold.
As for Transocean, most of the world dont even know it was them carrying out the work do they!

Seems to me that if they were cutting corners by telling the rig owners to do the work the cheap way and that can be proved, then they are for the high jump. Those who agreed to do the work in that fashion are just as guilty of course.

It's simple really.
America (Obama) want's control of BP. They will Bill it to death, and take it to the cleaners through the courts. BP can't pay? We'll take control then.
