Quality furniture?

Quality furniture?
I want to buy a decent oak dining room table / dresser. None of this IKEA / Tesco Direct crap, something that'll last.
Anyone know of any decent furniture suppliers not too far from Reading?

There was a company whose name escapes me tht made tables and things out of old hardwood railway sleepers brought in from Africa. Beautiful stuff and may be Google will help if company are still around. dl

I don't know where you live, but I'd have thought most towns/cities have good local furnature shops.
I thought I'd end up with oak, but bought Walnut in the end.

Reading is the nearest large town to me. I haven't found any decent furniture shops yet. Bought bedroom furniture in walnut from House of Fraser, but I think I could do better for my money in the rest of the house.

try your local auction houses, they have loads of this type of stuff every month and because most people want the ikea style stuff they go for peanuts.
wokingham auction is generally quite good

We bought some solid oak bedroom furniture from here: http://www.pinesolutions.co.uk/
Very pleased with it. Can also get an extra few % off via Quidco etc.

Not local to you, but we ordered our oak dining table and chairs from here.

Well pleased with the quality and the price seemed pretty reasonable too.

John Lewis stuff is massively overpriced. We use a supplier that John Lewis also use and an example is a bed that I can buy for £100 John Lewis sell for £700 Marks & Spencer are the same too

I've bought some very good quality furniture from Beadle and Crome at the end of Broad Street (Reading town centre) - mostly contemporary styles but they do have some more traditional stuff ...
