Brave men and women.
Sadly I dont think the younger generation have any idea what these people gave up for us.
But who cares about the Boar War? Perhaps WW1 and WW2 will have the same level of understanding in say 25 years time.

I watched a programme last night on the Tirpitz raid. Some of the men died absolutely horrific deaths (one of the x type subs sunk whilst being towed when the tow chain broke and the weight of tow chain took them down to the bottom where they were crushed ) Another took a direct hit from a 4" gun from the Tirpitz at almost point blank range.
And to think this was just one mission of thousands across the 2 wars which would have been equally as dangerous (suicidal?).
The surviving members of the mission who were interviewed were fascinating to listen to describing what happened and what they went through. Stories like this from the 'horses mouth' will be lost before too long.
The men and women who fought the 2 World Wars are the bravest people to have lived in my opinion. They volunteered for these types of missions when the certainty of them coming back was next to nothing.
Last night's programme is on iplayer and a fascinating watch:
