Petrol Prices, Read This!
I got this E-Mail the other day. Think it could Work
The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil companies have simply jacked their prices up and the government will not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase.
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it
We are hitting 114.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1.50 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out at this point... Keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... And those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... And so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 90p a LITRE RANGE
It's easy to make this happen. Just join this group and get all your FB friends to join or forward as an email to everyone in your address book, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. I.e.. Boycott BP and Esso

it'll never work, people are too selfish, 'they' will never inconvenience themselves to do what they perceive as helping others. Even if people in this country did stand together, this could never work, Esso and BP would not be allowed to significantly undercut other operators as it would be deemed as a move to put other operators out of business, and then jack up their prices even higher than when they had some competition.(bear in mind that most petrol stations are just a franchise and pay Esso and BP for the fuel, and actually make very little profit per litre) The actual problem stems from manufacturers making and people buying ultra efficient cars, not so long ago 30mpg was considered efficient, now that is 60mpg, so effectively the actual fuel cost is halved for these cars, so less fuel is purchased so more profit per litre is required by the fuel companies. The owners of thirsty cars are the ones that suffer, so use their thirsty cars less, which means less fuel is purchased which leads to the profit spiral by the fuel companies. It is all bollox anyway.....the main forcourt supplier of bio-diesel is no longer selling it due to withdrawel of subsidies by the UK government, E85 will be next, do the government actually give a **** about the environment? they say they do, they tax us like they do, but apparantly are lying about it all, after all, if they cared, why would they no longer subsidise bio fuels whilst telling us fosil fuels are bad news for the planet.

Been done to death.
It's the sh1te exchange rate coupled with the double duty rise we've had so far this year.
It's going to take a big protest by the hauliers again to get duty lowered.

If people actually did do this then it would work. The companies you stop buying from would have to lower their prices or go out of business. The later being an issue for us!!
Still, people cannot be bothered to do this. People see petrol like water, they just use the closest tap and accept that Dick Turpin is going to turn their wallet inside out

I had this emailed to me when I just started at university.
The year was 1998
I was a tender 19 years old
My computer was a 486 DX2 66Mhz with 64meg of RAM and Windows 3.2 and DOS 6.22
Petrol was compartively cheap back then
I owned a Ford Escort
I could get to uni and back quicker and cheaper than the peak return train/bus fares
Mark and Lard had took over from Chris Evans on the radio 1 breakfast show (t*****s ).
Labour had recently abolished student grants (t****rs )
Aqua and B*witched was constantly playing on Radio 1 (t***e*s )
Billy Piper was still trying to sing (< nelson > Ha ha < /nelson > )
One could still get Brew XI on tap at the pub for £1.14 (Carling was £1.40..I was a student - Brew XI was cheaper ).
And you know what? That email did sod all back then as well

Don't forget that an oil refinery will supply many different brands in an area not just their own. A lot of forecourts aren't run by the oil company, they are franchises.
The refinery may well reduce sales to "BP" forecourts in the area but the sales will just go up on the other forecourts so the refinery will still sell the fuel. Even if they didn't sell the BP blend, it will simply be stored until it's required or re-blended if really necessary. I don't think they would be too bothered.
From what I've heard, most of the big oil companies make the big money from the exploration side of it all anyway. Huge costs but huge profits when they strike oil!
Anyway, BP have pretty much got out of the refining business in the UK now anyway and sold their refineries to independant refiners.
BP Grangemouth is now operated by INEOS
BP Coryton is now operated by Petroplus
