Gritters
Is the council actually gritting anything anymore as I haven't seen a gritter in days. Also all the grit bins have been empty for weeks, there used to be one at the bottom of my street but its not there anymore. My missus was waliking my daughter to the bus stop this morning and they both slipped in the snow. When she got in she phoned the council and asked why there is no grit available and the reply was " footpaths are not a priority"

Its the opposite here; they been gritting all the residential streets.
Some roads by me I have never seen gritted in the past thirteen year I've driving - yet this year they gritted them...WTF.
Stop blowing my council tax on grit and resurface all the potholed roads that are ruining my car's suspension.
Even more stupider, they gritted last night at 10pm...no snow. So by the time teh snow did came (8am the following day), all the cars had driven away all the salt and grit, so when the snow did come down, it stuck.
They eventually re-gritted mid day....probem is teh second bout of snow came in the evening, and you guess it, all the grit and salt had been washed off by then by the traffic.
I'd rather they didn't grit roads at all, maybe just A-roads, motorways and bus routes. But nothing else. Thinking about it, thas what it was like ten years ago, and we coped ok back then.

For my entire journey up the M6 for Christmas (Brum to Preston) and all the way back afterwards just about every roadside message sign said "SALT SPREADING", and yet for those 200 miles or so of motorway travel i did not see a single gritter.
Check for yourselves, see how many "SALT SPREADING" signs are on your favourite motorway (via the Motorway Traffic Flow tool), then look at the traffic cameras to see how (un)clear our major arteries really are
Anyone would think that they are trying to brainwash us

Think I have used the car once since about the 22nd.
The main roads are ok but its a nightmare getting on & off my estate, were not classed a priority area to be gritted. I think we should be though, its a really hilly area where cars have trouble getting up & down the banks.
I was talking to my friend earlier & he was complaining about them coming round too often waking him up. Daft thing is he lives on the sea front and the snow never lasts very long. Where as up here we tend to have it about a week after its melted else where.

I expect most people think that "gritting" means sprinkling grit on slippery road, but not in Brum it isn't...

I hear4d yesterday that because of the shortage of salt they will eke out the remaining supplies with ...... grit ... ummm. Now call me stupid (quiet at the back!!) but I was under the impression that that was what came out of the back of these lorries anyway?! Salt mixed in to *help* the ice melt but a lot of grit as well. Salt isn't too grippy me-thinks ....

Officially the council here are saying they have 48hrs left.
Unofficially they've actually run out. There are council lads in flatback transits with a bit of grit in the back and they are doing an excellent job on the pavements. But they don't have much more to use.

Still never seen a gritter.
But this morning we had a JCB drive around the street. Its cleared the top of the snow off leaving about 3 inches of ice.
Around the rest of the estate he piled the snow up on the street corners, but in my street we have a mong that runs a car trading business from home, he has 3 of the cars parked on the corner.
So there's 2 massive piles of snow either side of the trench he dug along the road.
