Why do the ******* need to have the thing set 3ft off the ground? My car got a pasting the other night, scratches on my £1000+ carbon bonnet... not impressed!

Last year the council in Merton ran out of gritters during the 'surprise' (happens every other year) snow fall. Someone in their infinite wisdom decided since there were no gritters to send out sweepers instead.
Whilst ice skating to work I was invited to join several curling games already running on the freshly polished ice.

Salt is cheap for the councils but causes car damage through chips and corrosion as well as damge to the road surface.
The Liquid stuff is far more expensive to put down but doesn't destroy the road surface or damage cars.
You will never get local authorities to buy the more expensive alternative.
I do agree that the spreaders seem to be more aggressive over recent years, they used to nearly touch the ground now they hit half way up the doors.
There should me a maximum height and spread speed IMO.

So the question on everybody's lips:
Is it better to pass at 40mph with less damage but longer exposure time, or 140mph with more damage but less exposure?

a) Turn off and B road it and pull in front of it at the next junction.
b) Catch public transport.
c) Have a winter car. I'd suggest a DeLorian if you're worried about paint chips.
