Default Paypal advice please

Happy New Year to all.

I'm selling some surplus audio visual equipment on another forum. I've had a number of enquiries from abroad, inc Romania.
They have asked whether I would accept payment by Paypal. So a few questions please

1) If I take payment FIRST and transfer the money from the Paypal acct to bank, then is there any way I can still get scammed?

2) If the money is 'gifted' to me, do I incur any sort of charge from Paypal.

Many thanks

i would never use paypal again after being shafted by them recentely.its easier to just sell to uk only and not take the risk of being shafted.
i apparently had multiple accounts so they waited for me to sell some stuff then refused to let me have my own money.ended up threatening legal action so they refunded the people that had paid me(and i had already sent the items so lost cash and items)and said they wanted a parting of the waves between themselves and my company....funny that im a squaddie and dont run a business.paypal is getting to be a rip off and not as safe as people think.there are recent posts on here about people getting ripped off and paypal messing them around.

don't sell abroad.

how cheap can something be if someone in romania would buy it and pay for postage to them?

if someone sends a gift (if you want £100) they will have to pay £115ish, they pay the paypal fee's.

Never seems to cost me anything if I send something as paypal gift, it will say for example £100 sent, total paid £100. have yet to ever receive a fee for sending this way and the only reason I sent it this way was to save the other person getting any fees in receiving the cash.

anyone clarify ??

If you send money as a gift you pay the 4% fees.

not if you have a paypal balance

One thing you need to remember with paypal is you can ALWAYS lose your money does not matter if you send with a tracking number, the address is confirmed, they have left you positive feedback.

A lot of paypal fraud from Lithuania, Romania on ebay/paypal at the moment steer well clear!

Nope never had any funds in my paypal account when sending the money either. dad has just sent me two lots off £100 via paypal gift and never cost him any extra either ie. £100 sent - £100 charged.

possibly depend on what sort off account you have with them ?? ie business etc ?? just a standard non business account here.

If the money is 'gifted' I believe there are no fees either way. It IS ideal to get them to gift it, as there is no come back. If someone sends you a gift payment, I believe they cant try to 'pull it back' due to claiming faulty goods, item not turning up, damaged etc, because the money is purely a gift (ie not meant to pay fro goods).

This is completely true. I have used "gift" payments to and from my paypal account. You dont get charged in anyway, shape or form. Not even for withdrawing to your bank account. And as described above. You could theoreticly (sp) shaft them and not post anything and they cant claim a penny from you.

You will know if they sent it as a gift or not by the amount recieved, and the actual amount in the account. if its different, then the payment has NOT been made using gift. IE paypal will charge you for handling the money.
