Now I understand why people don't care about driving.
Just picked up my loan car, a snazy 2002 Pug 206 1.1 LX I will never ever complain about my Alfa being slow as the 206 is just crap, dead as a doornail with the worst gearbox EVER!
How anyone could test drive one of these, like it and buy it is beyond me. Absolutely dreadful car.

I used to get a Hayundai Getz when I had my Impreza serviced.
The word sh1tbox doesn't do justice to the experience.
One time they gave me an Amica!!!!!
The only way they could have improved that would be to have the exhaust pipe vent directly into the car.

I don't think thats a valid argument as is just such a bad car. Its the worst car i've ever sat in. It has no redeeming features.
Never having driven a 1.1 before i really now feel bad for everytime i've got angry at someone going slow or not overtaking a tractor now, it wasn't their fault that their car was crap.

I was loaned an '09 plate A6 (2.0TDi) while my A4 was in being sorted. I have never driven such a soulless car in my life.
I had it for the week (only had my A4 for 2 days before it went back) and never once got excited / interested / remotely impressed by it. EVERYTHING was automatic, there was no involvement at all. I mean it was incredibly comfortable and easy to drive.... but.... well - you kind of sat in it and got to where you were going.
Boring.

I had a fiat panda 750 as a loan car way back.
I thought it was quite nippy as I manoeuvred out of it's parking space and joined the main road... unfortunately it was already going flat out

A garage once lent me a Daihatsu Terios when my scooby was in for service. I took it straight home, parked it on the driveway, and drove my Westfield for the next few days.
In the rain.
F**k me, that was a terrible car.

Nova 1.5D (not a TD) is the worst car i've ever driven. Sounded like a transit but was slower..... much slower. Owning a car like that is punishment for for murder in a previous life.

Got a 1.5 Impreza when mine went in for rattles to be fixed.
Now I used to own a MY96 sport and loved it, it was a good and reliable car and went if you put your foot down. This 1.5 was a heap of junk, refused to budge below 3k rpm and as for the gear box ....

I've got used to the relatively modest performance of my WRX.
That was until I drive the gf's Clio 1.2 for a few days recently and have a renewed appreciation of my Scoob's performance and greater patience with people in "ordinary" cars.
There is one particular hill on my daily commute and didn't realise how steep was until I drove the Clio up it.
A terrible car we drove recently was a virtually new Corsa hire car. So gutless it was dangerous. The only function of the horribly vague gearbox seemed to be to change the level of screeching coming from the pathetic engine.

Agree with you about Corsas, Jerome. I had to endure one for a couple of days last year. I kept having to check the handbrake wasn't accidentally engaged, and as for the driving position, visibility, lack of refinement, basically everything, it was just horrible. If that's what cars had to be, i'd catch the bus, every time.

The 2nd worst ever hire car I have had the misfortune of using. Had one in Portugal for a week and had to drive it up to Lisbon which from the Algarve is mostly uphill. The ****ty little tin box couldn't cope with any hills and was regularly passed by old wimmin on donkeys
In the words of Blackadder " It was as fast as an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping "
Worst courtesy car ever was one loaned to me whilst my scoob was being fixed. It was a fiat panda of some varying year in a hideous bile green colour, the worst interior known to man, broken wing mirrors, the suspension was dubious, the power was laughable and it had obviously been in a few shunts. I feared for my life just reversing off my driveway

I've noticed a dramatic increase of cars on my route to work (definately double, maybe treble)
They are all shyte cars at that too, my theory is that they're all government workers going in on flexi to leave early for presumably xmas shopping.
I swear i must have saw 20 or 25 hyundia getz on my route this morning
dozens of fiesta, high numbers of corsa's
An unusually high number of "old" cars too
I leave early to beat the traffic, but these ******* are ruining that
I reckon these people simply have no interest in cars whatsoever

As a breath of fresh ...
Years back possible in france but more likely spanish derivative i hired a Renualt twingo
Funnily enough it was almost useless fro traffic light grandprix , in fact it might not even have possessed air conditioning
But otherwise it was a very nice mover with more space than you'd expect . Twenty years after the event i hear we might get it over here - albeit blinged up

Surly its a matter of cutting the cloth according to the money available.
If you could not afford to run a performance car of any kind, wouldn't you accept some sort of machine anyway even if it does behave like a plate of porridge.
