Default worried yet?

Looks like they are now stepping it all up. I think in about 10years time maybe even sooner and we will live in a country which will almost be like a concentration camp where everything we do and say will be monitored.

Will it allow the inland revenue and benefit agencies to finally catch up with all those ebayers trading and not correctly or legally declaring it?

Yes.

But in likeliness, will they ever catch them?

Probably not.

Therefore: Pointless, will just inconvenience members of the law abiding public.

Edinburgh has the most security/spy cameras in any city in the world, hence the reason why we don't go shopping there anymore! Not that we're doing anything wrong and nor do we intend to, but it's kinda like being in Asda with a security guard following you round watching every move you make!

As for mobile phone calls then I'll bin that straight away, I hate the fookin thing anyway, and I'm sure I could live without broadband or any internet tbh, it'll save me a bit of cash if nothing else!

And we all know how good the government are on delivering large, complex IT programmes.

This must be a license to print money to the right contractor!

and the fact that in the past there needed to be a warrant to collect that info, once there was a suspicion if criminal activity - now there is no warrant and everyone is under suspicion. Innocent until proven guilty? Not any more. Welcome to the new police state. In the meantime frustrated citizens angry at not receiving any service at all from the state are arrested whilst the streets are roamed by persistent criminal scum

We can also expect to be stopped from time to time and ordered to produce our identification papers!

Yes I know it will be an ID card!

I don't quite understand how that will work.

If I visit a dodgy website and want to be traced it is relatively straight forward: Get IP address and time, contact ISP, see who the user is, find child pornography on the computer regardless of whether it is there or not (being cynical).

But the other way round? That would mean I would have to supply my ID card (?) or Passport when I apply for an internet connection or mobile telephone. And there would need to be a central database that contains the ISP / Phone network I belong to at a particular time and perhaps multiple requests then go out to obtain records. Then there is the fun of the fact there are adults that wander in and out of my house and connect to the wireless connection etc...

That is an IT nightmre and I can't see it happening anytime soon.

yep it is a case of just because you can doesn't mean you should

once again an example of society attaining the level of the lowest common denominator

what major IT supplier in their right mind will say -- "mmm don't bother can't be done"

it's like asking a lawyer -- should I take this to court?
