Dont try and drive it like a car, grab it by the scruff and batter it, the subtle side comes in once on the edge, dont brake unless you have to or to set it up for a corner, considering my 16 stones I usually get the fastest lap.

Oh, and dont be polite, maximum prejudice.

Smooth and consistant and dont be too aggressive as you'll get black flagged and if your a fat **** you wont get anywhere i was stone dead last - booo!

I nearly tipped mine right over up on the upper twisty section because my tyres got that hot it gripped and i was right up on two wheels.

Scared the s**t out of me!!!

funny -- went to our local track with my son and friend for a 20 min session to recce the possibilities of having my sons 10 birthday there

echo what previous poster have said -- no braking

but it is also amazingly physical and demanding -- not sure I could more that 20 mins flat out

Last time I was there, the red mist decended in the Final and I got black flagged - didn't argue, but wasn't happy; What's wrong with pushing someone into the barriers??

Schumacher would have been proud!

I've raced there, the circuit is nowhere near as big as the 3D graphic on their website suggests, but it is very good

Tips? Here are mine;

YOu have to keep the power on as you come out from under the bridge and up the ramp to the higher level, the kart bounces about like a git, and the seat batters your ribs like you wouldn't believe, but if you back off you lose all momentum up the hill

Clip the apexes as tightly as you can on the upper level, keep the power on, the grip up there is really good.

Get a good run out of the last bend on the upper level as it's flat all the way down the ramp to the far end, If you are brave you can get some serioujs speed up by the end of the straight

Be careful not to hit oyur fellow karters, they are really keen with the flags there. Their karts are in very good condition, & I suspect they want to keep them that way

Most of all, remember that brakes are for girls, and second place is just first of the losers

Funnily enough, went Karting yesterday myself. Group of 8 of us were merged with another group. 30 cars in total. Twin engined.

20 minutes practice / qualifying. Disapointed that I only ended up 10th on the grid. But found out later people had been before, so they're used to it.

40 minute race. jumped 3 places straight off the line. Fighting with the lead pack . Up to 6th with a great overtakeing move (out braked him into a tight corner). Went to do the same to get 5th place, (overtake on the outside of the corner) but got tapped, and spun. Caught the leed pack up again, but spun on my own this time.

After 40 minutes, finished 7th out of 30. Not brilliant, but best out of our group of 8.

Brilliant day, going to have to do this more often

Cheers for replies, some good info

So is it best to brake into corners and accelarate round and out or to lift off the gas and avoid braking?

Everytime I go karting I think I should do this more often but never do.

Personally I tend to brake very hard deep into a corner, using the brakes (and my weight ) to get the back round, then get right back on the gas

Definitely brutal, but also great fun Plus I don't have to maintain the Karts

some people prefer to brake while turning but tbh you will spend more time perfecting the technique and avoiding spinning and/or over correcting yourself which makes you lose momentum and it kills your speed for the next straight after the corner. imo you are much better hammering it down the straight and braking in a straight line as late as you dare, then accelarate all the way through the corner. this way you will fly past all the smart ***** sliding sideways on the corners. but as said when you start to go up the raised part of the track you can keep your foot in all the way through here (if you keep your line), be brave on the way back down the hill with a slight skim of the right front of the kart (dont get this wrong though or it could be sore)and then its flat out all the way to the hairpin at the opposite end. then if you do as i said at the beginning you should set youself up well for the rest of the track.
