Just stick a "tax in post" note in the windscreen of your rusty yellow ford transit

if you have applied for a tax disc online you can drive around on the strength of your old tax disc for 5 days only

Seriously though, although you are taxed it is still an offence not to display a valid tax disc

but in practice I dont think the police would bother

and surely APNR camera's would just link a numberplate with the DVLA database which would show you properly taxed

they just need to reform the law requiring you to display it

Actually Dogs he is correct, it is an offence not to display a valid tax disc.

Though how an ANPR camera would spot this I'm not sure

He is indeed correct, it is an offence to not display a valid VEL, infact from memory the law even states that it should be on the near side of the windscreen as well.

ANPR link to DVLA database, so no problem with them. Only issue might be parked in a carpark or on the street and some **** in a uniform spots you.
I drove round for the last 3 weeks without because of a local postal strike but carrying my online receipt as Yoza said. Tax arrived yesterday so I'm legal again.

I would love to know how many people get prosecuted for non displaying a VEL disk -- that have paid the Tax abd it's eitherin the post or lost or down the side of the passenger seat

I would suspect it to be in the low single figures

^^ Agreed. If we knew that though we might not bother taxing our cars When was the last time you saw a police car yet alone got stopped?
