Default my Denon's HomeCinema DVD player has packed up...

Denon DHT500SD

as title, Currys warranty picked it up on Thursday and took it for repair, today had a phone message to say I'll be getting vouches for it!!

Does that mean they can't repair it??

If so, would they give vouches to the value the Denon cost when new?? (about £500)

if they give vouches or Currys to buy another.. They don't sell Denon anymore

What do I do, or what should I be looking at repacing it for??

In the paper work, it says they give the value of voucher for the equivelent SPEC product, but all the home cinemas at Curys don't seem to hav the high spec the Denon has. like digital optical out, multi speaker sound settings, ie: 5 speaker setting for radio giving a full sound.

what do I do????

Is that the gold unit?

Mine was nearly £800 about 10 years ago. The remote was about £80 from John Lewis i think. I would ask for more

See if they will let you buy something with the £500 vouchers online. Buy something online for £600 and use your bank/credit card. Then send it back under distance selling rules and they should refund your card £600. Go buy another Denon elsewhere.

this is it,

lookig on the net I've found you can buy the DVD mechanism for £321
Dht500Sd Mechanism Dvd Complet

is that why they've said it can't be fixed, because the cost to fix it would be too high?

If that works ill be suprised, i think you will get vouchers back and 100 on the card, if not their finance department needs a good kicking imo!

picked it up, can't be fixed. I'm being sent £499 in currys vouchers!

now, can't get another denon at curys as they don't sell them anymore, anything else they have isn't the sme hi spec as the denon.
so me thinking of still using the denon as an amp, cd player and surround sound for the tv, then buying a DVD player to link up to the denon, then the denon will do the sound for that.
can it be done?

what dvd should I look at under £500?

i might look at this, as a dvd player
Currys - Shop for DVD Players - Samsung DVDH1080R DVD Player

connect it t the denon, then save vouches till blu ray gets cheaper etc etc... also I don't have full 1080 HD tv anyway yet.

update for you,

went to currys yesterday evening with my warrenty claim code........ full money back for the denon
BUT the voucher they printed up off their computer system had to be used there and then after they printed the blinkin thing off!!!
so no time to think about what we wanted to spend the money on

we couldn't even take the vucher away and come back today... so 2hrs later after entering the shop we had spent a bit more money and ended up with a NEW 37" Samsung LCD tv and a BluRay player (that they had £100 off if you bought with the tv)

the tv is better than the samsung LCD I paid for 4.5years ago!!

it's also full hd 1080p. so should see an improvement even though its not as expensive as what I bought years ago.

didn't go in wanting a new tv as the one we have has nothing wrong with it, but this way we now have a upto date HD telly
