I doubt they are a true reflection.
The inhabitants of many poor areas don't have or can't afford house insurance and so would not claim or maybe even report a burglary.
I know when I was a student in Leeds in the early 90's, Headingley and LS6 were about the most burgled areas in Britain but I doubt there were many insurance claims.

Cos its near Little Hulton, Eccles and a stones throw from Salford.
I used to work on theManchester Police Crime Pattern Analysis system, map crime by colour and Salford was like a big red boil, car crime didnt seem so bad for Salford until you mapped it by recovery location and then it went red again, dependant on model certain coppers with local knowledge could go and trawl a certain area and usually get a car back as they could guess who had nicked it.
Was a really interesting area to work in, Crime pattern Analysis as opposed to Salford.
There are different types of crim out there as well, there were I remember only a few profiles and it broke down into those who sh4t on their own doorstep, those who went further afield to places they knew and the most dangerous, the ones who planned where to go and covered their tracks.

bradford is the car insurance crime capital:
32,000 vehicles with no insurance- hitting 64% in the inner city areas
BD2,3, BD7, 8 etc.
I guess a lot of those areas on the list will be student though:
roundhay and nottingham for example.
kids away from home with lots of luxury items for the first time, thieves paradise ???? living in poor end,in secure housing.

Surprising, as it is a leafy up-market area ..... maybe that's why the thieving scum travel there then? I used to live there, didn't really see it as an issue.
Now much more refined in Hampshire ....

LS8- Big student area near Headingly, students seem to be completely oblivious to the risks of Burglary when they leave home, and leave laptop's next to open windows etc.
LS15- Big council estate area.

Of the 4 places that they list in Nottingham, I have lived in three of them. West Bridgford is quite a posh area in Nottingham with a lot of housing. Therefore people travel to burgle there. As for the other two areas Sherwood and Arnold, well they are not v nice areas. No great surprise that they are in the list, although quite how St Annes is not in there is beyond me.

I live in S8. Its leafy South West Sheffield, and its mostly nice. Id have thought that S2 was a far greater risk from in insurance perspective (Manor, Manor Park, Arbourthorne, Wybourne, Hyde Park, Park Hill etc). Not too long ago S2 had the steepest loading in Sheffield, whilst S8 and S11 residents benefited from much cheaper home contents insurance...

NG3 covers various areas - Snafsville (St Anns), Sherwood, Mapperley, Mapperley Park.
NG2 includes The Meadows, which is why the travel to Bridgford to do a spot of burglary.
Home Office stats show that Snafs are unlikely to travel more than 2 miles to go burglarising houses - most will only go up to half a mile.
I'm incredibly surprised that NG18, NG19 & NG20 don't feature - but then again, the people around Mansfield, Woodhouse and Warsop don't normally have insurance, so can't claim anyway.

At the end of the day they are "statistics" and should be treated as just that.
Yes another number someone was paid a silly amount of money to work out, which ultimatly has little bearing on every day life.
I will sleep well tonight in my house, with the window open as usual, knowing that im in the top 20 postcodes, and im just making it easy for them.

Just had a great response about these figures from a local Safer Neighbourhoods Team.
I know the link has been posted before, but for those wondering what sorts of reported number of crimes there are, rather than spin figures from insurance companies....
Metropolitan Police Service - Crime mapping
