Default Inglourious Basterds

Looks quite interesting ... Tarantino's movies are a bit hit or miss, so hopefully this will be good.

well it is sort of a remake so hopefully he won't have cocked up.
It takes bits of the Dirty Dozen and Kellys Heroes style which i both thoroughly enjoyed.

Looks good to me. Mind you Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill 1 & 2 are some of my favourite films so probably a wee bit biased.

Shame Disney have their hands on Kill Bill and that it is unlikely we will ever see it re-edited to one film as intended.

I doubt that he will ever surpass Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction. I was disappointed by Kill Bill (although Ive come to appreciate it now), but Deathproof really was poor...

I think you have to view Deathproof as a B movie/homage to Grindhouse as that is really what it was. It was never intended to stand alone and should have been shown piggy backed with Planet Terror as intended.

Tarantino was quite angry that the films were not shown this way in the UK as he felt the UK would have 'got it' even if America didn't.

Kill Bill was great but would have been so much better as one 3 hour long epic. I really hope that Disney pass the rights over to a more sympathetic film company who will allow Tarantino to re-edit them into the original format for a special DVD release.

Re 'grindhouse'; I do. After Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown I think that any QT film will be a disappointment though.

Perhaps QT should consider adapting further Elmore Leonard novels into films? This may prevent the awful QT-type dialogue that his work is full of now: its as though someone else who didnt quite get it is trying to write in his style, and its painfull. Kill Bill was bad for this and Deathproof even worse...

From the couple of trailers I've seen, it does seem like a rather amusing film. I seem to recall QT saying that it's a war movie in the style of a spaghetti western, but I might have got that wrong.

You lucky Basterds get it a week earlier than we do. 19th Aug for UK and 21st Aug for US/Canada.

So has anyone been to see it?

I saw it this evening and it is hard to describe. It is such a bizarre mixture of genres. Overall I enjoyed it but was confused at finding comedy in the Third Reich; at the same time of the performances were truly brilliant. Particularly Colonel Landa of the SS. Outstanding part and outstanding performance.

Brad Pitt was less convincing, Taratino has taken some surprising actors and made them brilliant and I am not sure it worked with Pitt.

Think Schindlers List meets Allo, Allo! Told you it was an odd mix!

Overall I will give it a 9/10 on IMDB and say it is highly recommended.

Oh and a couple of the gory bits genuinely made me wince! Very QT.

Tarantino always strikes me as a complete dork when he's interviewed, but this film looks more appealing than others he's done recently.

Given the plot of IB is pretty much totally different to that film and the plot device is also completely different - at best it is a piece of homage.

The only device in common is a group of Americans that are in France dealing out trouble to the **** regime. They are there deliberately and they are all selected because they are Jewish. And some of them are even ex-**** soliders!

Not really a lot in common.

Watched it last night, not quite what I was expecting but a decent film nontheless.

All of the acting is superb, QT really does get the best out of people. I even enjoyed Brad Pitt's acting which is saying something, it was mostly comical but that was the point.

A lot of the usual film references as you'd expect. I'd be disappointed to see a QT film without it to be honest.

Hardly any swearing which took me by surprise but a real good flick, it's difficult to say too much without spoiling it. Dare I say that QT may have calmed down a bit in his old age?

I thought DeathProof would be the end of him, really didn't like it but Inglourious Basterds is a return to form but doesn't quite match his previous efforts.

I quite fancy seeing this as I love Pulp Fiction (but strangley not any of his other stuff... second to Pulp I would actually put Deathproof..) and I'm a fan of WW2 movies as well.

Trailer looks good, and the reviews have promising...

Even if you vaguely like QT then go and see this movie.

It is easy to enjoy and hard to describe - the only reason I make it a 9 rather than a 10 is that one of the stories (there are always multiple stories in a QT) feels incomplete and unresolved. What is good really is great.

Saw it last night and agree with a majority of the posts above.a great film, don't be put off by the length which you don't notice at all.to go into any further detail would spoil it-go see it!

QT pretty much said this in his interview with Jonathan Ross a while back. He said it doesn't relate much to the original at all, just taken some ideas from it etc.
