DVLA
I bought a car 4 months ago from a garage, dealer sent off the V5 and gave me the NKS.
2 months later i hadn't received the new V5 so i sent off the NKS with a V62 to apply for a new V5 - nothing
2 weeks ago i wrote to dvla asking what was happening - no reply!
Today i phoned dvla and they say they haven't received any applications in my name - how can 3 items go missing??????????
I've now had to sent another V62 and now a cheque for £25 as i don't have the NKS (i sent it to them remember) and i've had to post it recordered?
I'm supposed to be trading the car at the end of the week and the dealer wont take it without a V5
dvla wont do the application over the phone and are now saying it can take 4-6 weeks - WTF??????

Excellent advice that should adhered to when dealing with any large public or private organisation where data loss or incorrect entry can cause you problems.
I also log every telephone call; full name, ref number (if possible) and write down minutes of the conversation.
Daft that one should need to do it in this day and age, but when things get messed up (as they frequently do with regards to Banks and the Inland Revenue), having a paper trail to refer to makes sorting things out so much easier and also proves I'm not the person at fault.

They are feckin useless mate simple as that.
I bought my STi 4 weeks ago, V5 needed to be changed from private plates to original, which was done for the previous owner, good. I get an updated Tax disc and MOT the following week with correct details and reg number, great. Plus it all turned up quickly. My faith in the DVLA restored, I wait for my V5.
My V5 turned up last week wrong licence plate on it (the private one) and they have got my surname wrong as well
So now I have to fill in sections 5+6 n sign 8 n send the V5 back and wait another 4 weeks minimum, because the name change is an amendment! It's not a feckin amendment you got the details wrong and made errors, *****
Then the guy on phone has the audacity to say there will be no charge for correcting the V5, dam feckin right there won't be. Morons *spit

well after 4 months and 4 applications (i forgot to add another 1 when i retaxed the car after a month) the new v5 came throught the post today
I've been phoning dvla everyday to check the progress on the last application which was sent recordered and asking about the previous apps they haven't received any of them or the letter?
lesson learnt is send everything recordered or they wont even try to follow things up
hmm - wonder how long the next cars v5 will take to come through?

Always send everything recorded to the DVLA - they seem to 'lose' an awful lot of post, particularly if they can make some extra money by fining you for not getting paperwork in for not taxing or declaring SORN a car you have sold ( this happened to my wife, and also seems to have happened to a lot of other people ! ).
