Default Child tax credits???

Looking about on the sites about this, and it says you to get the full amount you need to earn below a certain level within your household. But may still be able to claim if your above the threshold at a reduced rate.

has anyone got any idea how much this actually is that you can claim and in what form do you recieve it? Just wanted to know if it was worth bothering with before applying for forms with probably hundreds of pages...

Cheers.

Its worth bothering with unless your loaded and dont need the extra loot

... its free money basically... and they credit it in a bank/society of your choice...

From what we have worked out this is it. Child benefits are about £20 a week for everyone and tax credit lower rate is about £80.80 a month for the first year then reduces by 50%
You can also claim for a sure start grant of £500(only applicable if your on a benefit). And you can apply for a health and pregnancy grant of £190.

We worked that out based on us being over the household income of £58,000 a year, this seems the highest rate of the lower rate income.
To be honest I dont think we will bother claiming for any of it, We dont need it and others do, Plus the amount of time it would take to do the forms I could earn more than that.

It is very much worth claiming if you are on a low income. I was ill last year and only worked for 4 or 5 months (self employed), at only half throttle, so didn't earn much at all. I was very surprised at how much you can get. With one child you can claim about £5000 if you earn less than £10,000 per year. This reduces to £550 or so at £20,000 per year, and is the same up to £50k ish. Therefore , adding income tax on top, for every pound you earn between £10 and £20k, you lose 70p! A rate of taxation that would have the rich fleeing the country in leaky bath-tubs, Cuban style!

Is any of this retrospective?

We brought up two kids with household income of around £15,000 per year which I thought would be way over any benefit threshold although we did get child benefit.

Oh Yes! The missus was seriously ill in 2004, so I didn't earn much that year either... I claimed earlier this year and got a bonus of £1300!
I'm not sure how far back you can go, but it's worth phoning them to find out.

Read this. HMRC refused to back-date more than 3 months unclaimed CTC, so I was left out of pocket to the tune of about 18 months worth of CTC. This 3 month deadline seems to be a common threshold for unclaimed HMRC credits. Not that I'm at all bitter about it mind!

well we've a baby due shortly- and having worked for the last 20 yrs and never ever claimed a penny in my life, I'm determined to screw some handouts back out of the state.

there are some real anomalies- like if you can't be bothered working for a living you get a grant of £500....... whereas we only get £250.

what a system eh ???

somehow I already know- we'll get not one penny in credits etc.

Not true unless you have a disabled child. The maximum you will receive for 1 child is...

£2235 child element
£545 family element
£545 baby element (Up until childs 1st birthday)

HM Revenue & Customs: Rates and Allowances - Tax Credits/Child Benefit

So maximum you can receive for a newborn = £3325pa and then £2780pa if the child is over 1.

For each and every child you have on top of this, you get an additional child element of £2235, so 4 children would see you with an award of £2235 x 4 + £545 family element + £545 baby element if 1 of those is under 1.

As to thresholds, you are allowed to earn upto £16k without it affecting your entitlement. As soon as £16,040 is reached, it then begins to taper off. This depends on how many children you have, for 1 child the taper off point ends at around £22k earnings so at £16k you will get the full award, £22k and above you will get just the basic £545 family award and anything in between £16k-£22k is tapered from the full to the basic. This rises by around £6k per child afterwards so 2 children will see you with a £16-£28k taper, 3 children £16k-£34k taper etc etc

Although maximum cut off point for receiving family element is around £58k.

To claim the SMG award of £500 you must be claiming more than a family award, so anything over £545pa/£1090pa (if you have a child under 1)

Very very profitable system for those that push out kids left right and chelsea especially if they self diagnose bad behaved kids with ADHD and the likes as they then get a whole load of other awards for child being disabled. They get the disabled CTC awards plus DLA awards for them too, i.e free mobility car etc.

The system is a shambles in my opinion, too many mistakes made and far too many abusing it and making a living off it.

Generally most families in work will only receive the £545 family element, so £10.50pw or so. Half the amount of child benefit, so yes, better than a kick in the ***** but nothing to go shouting home about.

Scary thought, My Mrs and I work very hard and we exceed the 58k mark, as I stated above I wont claim as I dont need to it does make me sick that I pay sooooooooo much each month to support baby factories.

I can see a good SN debate here!!! I am going to start a thread!

The missus just spoke to them, we wont get a bean as we work hard and our income is too high. ho hum.

And as per a previous post it made my pi$$ boil when we recieved the £250 child trust fund voucher, and with the literature it said if we were claiming one of many benefits it would be doubled.

In a round about kind of way the government reward people for having babies, therefore they pay them to have sex, therefore they are trying to mold a nation of ******.
But at least if we get paid for it it will be one step ahead of the raping we get from the at the moment.

And working tax credit? Claimed on the same form...
The figures on your link are different (by£2.50 ish) to the figures I have from HMR&C. Bleedin' shambles!
And the sheer volume of paperwork and different forms is mind-boggling!
It's still a major dissincentive to the work shy getting off their lardy *****.

well even though my better half works for the revenue- because I exceed 58K, plus her wage on top- not a chance in hell of anything- barr child benefit.

tis true about benefits though- I've dealt with families in the past getting more than £3800 a month in on the old rock and roll.

mind you if you have more than one wife and choose to **** your sisters/cousins and produce endless disabled kids, its easily done.
