hi can anyone point me into the right direction for making a banner and company log for my website please?

What operating system are you using? I'm going to guess it's XP. You probably want an image package, something like Adobe Photoshop, but Adobe Photo Elements would be good as well (think of it as "lite" version of Photoshop).

its for an accounting / book-keeping company which my girlfriend owns
she wants something fairly simple but sleek in appearance.
yes im running XP
whats a decent version of photoshop to learn on? i can probably find a copy
i can use Autocad but i have never really used a paint package

if u want a free version of photoshop then the open source version of photoshop is called GIMP and its 100% legal to download and totally free and can do most things photoshop can do

If you want a logo that can be used for other things - headed paper, advertising, signs etc... then make the logo as a vector, not a JPEG ( you can convert the vector into a JPEG once it is made to put on the website ).
