Whatever you use, make sure it has SSL encryption to the site, this makes it impossible for your ISP or the authorities to monitor your activities.

If men in black coats come knocking on your door, with a plain white van outside, then you will know

I use piratebay, mininova and btjunkie, although I tend to use btjunkie more than the other two, piratebay search is incredibly pants

True yeah, but it is very hard, the ISP could do a center attack using a virtual tunnel and inspect the SSL traffic, but in the UK would need a court order.

My Dad once got a letter from his ISP saying they were aware of him downloading Rush Hour 3.
He doesnt even know how to download a film so instead of admitting this lack of ability he rang them up and said it couldnt of been him because he hasnt seen Rush Hour 1 or 2 yet
