There's something wrong with my Smeg...
... gas hob.
If the electric power to the hob is turned on, the hob continuosly attempts to ignite all of the burners.
I've noticed that if I put a metal tray above the little, white ignition thingumy it stops the clicking but does obviously become conductive and just acts as a conductor for the current.
The repetitive click-click-click as it attempts to ignite is driving me insane.
Anybody know how to repair this fault?

You haven't done something daft like set the oven timer by mistake (assuming it has one ?). Ours does this if you accidently program the oven to come on by walking into the timer buttons.

I assume there's a push button that you use to light the gas? If so it could be stuck down, or water/cleaning solution has got in as previously stated.

same thing happens tp mine, the ignitor has two mechnisims to start it one is the ignition button, and one is the gas **** for the oven,(ie the one you turn to adjust the oven) this one i supposed to stick for about 5 seconds when you turn the oven on(only the oven not the hobs), but a genral pulling and punching sorts it out.
So basiclly pull you **** and punch it.

Typical, only half the story
If you'd said it had been two years, I would of suggested a 15lbs sledge hammer
