For desert I recommend "Whisper" - got the dude out of Lost (blondie guy), really well done, dark moody atmosphere and the movie gives you the creeps a few times.
Edit: forgot to mention, the kid is plain ****ing scary... he makes Omen look like a kids movie

Best ones we've seen for ages have been the Saw films - wouldn't want to be married to the guy that wrote those - he's twisted!

Saw this last night - I thought the girl I went with was gonna go through the ceiling she jumped that high ! The film's quite good, pretty creepy in a similar fashion to Mirrors, but there's a lot of this kind of film around these days

I like a good movie and I do seem to find that Empires reviews are fairly spot on.
If the above is true, then this a a fairly average movie, one to wait for dvd for. Empire Reviews Central - Review of The Unborn
I'll reserve my own judgment, but I don't hold great hopes. I'll stick to good old fashioned Jap/Spanish horror with subtitles for the mo as it seems the the rest are only capable of ripoffs and modern pop-horror.
