Default Another bloody crash

So me and the mum to be went food shopping last night after a nice arduous 10 hour shift on the 'works. For the record we spent £87 on two weeks shopping for those who are interested
Driving home down a main road which leads to our street and BAM... not another RTA I'm involved in A turkish guy has pulled out from my left hand side off a side street right into my front passenger wheel/wing area.

999 "erm, help. Had a crash on passenger side, Mrs is 36 weeks pregnant"

To be fair, the fast responce unit took a couple of minutes - superb. Mrs taken to hospital whilst I sort out the ensuing chaos. Turkish dude was very apologitic and admitted fault straight away. I'm in shock worried about Nat and the fuzz turn up too as the ambulance did.

Thank god mum and baby to pop out are fine. Waters haven't broken and it's me who ended up at hospital later on after said fuzz called me an ambulance

Powleece may be prosecuting the other guy for dangerous driving as he lurched out really quickly from a stop, give way side street.

So got home at about 11.30 (accident happened at 7.30) last night from hospital and didn't even get a kebab for me and her

This morning called my insurance (Co-operative), did the forms and awaiting a call back from the claims team. Now this is where I get pissed off. Woman on the phone asked if the car was repairable. Now I drive a 98 106 1.1 so worth what? £500-600 max? I said I refuse to drive it as the bonnet is bent, wing desimated, bumper hanging off, headlight shattered and tracking seemed out (mate drove the car the 0.5 miles from the accident home under powleece supervision). I said it looks as though it's a write off. So the obligatory courtesy car which would be sorted if the car was repaired at a approved garage suddenly dissappeared It's different being a write off to repairable somehow.

Ok, so what do I do? Well she said ring his insurers (we swapped all details and I took photos of the scene and both cars). So I called his insurers and it hadn't been reported by him yet. His insurance was legit however so I assumed he hadn't got round to it. Now his insurers even said it looks clear cut as I mentioned about the 5-0 possibly doing him for dangerous driving or careless, not sure. So I said I need a car to get around in please. Only to get to work and the fact she's ready to blow But apparently the "third party team" who deal with me isn't being created until tues-weds. They will decide whether I can have a car or not So let me get this, they can offer me a car at their probably great expense or just decide NO. Hmm, wonder which way that will go

So his insurers will call him, I've given mine and Nats details to everyone. If he doesn't respond, they write to him... and again, and again... 3rd time they will find in my favour, by what time it could be 2012 Ok, not that long but fooking ages. So I have a battered car outside my gaff which I refuse to drive on the premis that is it unsafe. I refuse to put mine and the Mrs/baby safety at risk for the sake that they won't provide me for god knows how long.

So I'm thinking to ring back my insurers and play **** up or say "yeah car is repairable - bring me a nice replacement for hire and then I'll let you 'fix' mine". Was I being a **** for being brutally honest and saying the damage to the value will 90% mean it meets the big scrapyard in the sky.

I'm really unsure now. Mrs ready to blow, work is too far to walk (luckily got next week off holidays) and yeah, my shoulders, arms and back are killing me BUT SHE AND OUR UNBORN SON ARE OK THANK GOD

Rant over

Hello bud,

Yeah as long as she's ok thats all that matters really. I've had whiplash before so know what to look out for and how to cope. She said she went all floppy when the car hit whilst here's me tensing up and swerving like a day out at Elvington.

Cars replaceable, only a reliable french bucket but I worry incase Nat needs to get somewhere sharpish

isnt there a no win no claim type company that sorts a car out for you and then claims it back off his insurance in this case.

That would certainly be an option if Andy gets no joy from his insurers (or theirs)

It's in the Polish blokes insurance companies interested to get you in one of THEIR courtesy cars, as that'll keep the claim costs down, so use that to your favour

Andy, sorry to hear about this and be careful with that wife and baby to be of yours as if you are feeling knocked about you need to keep an eye on them, but I guess you know that!

See how you all are over the next few days and get to the docs/hospital if anything persists. Sometimes these accidents can have effects days later.

As for the insurance keep on at them, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Choccy/Andy,

1. £87 on two weeks - that's pretty cheap!

2. As Moley has indicated, you can use an accident management company or credit hire company (phone book/google) if the Third Party insurers don't give you a car (they're daft if they don't as they will just increase their own costs in the long run).

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I'm still waiting for the "compensation culture" comments LOL

My insurers called back and said a recovery company will be in touch. My legal cover may hopefully sort the courtesy car out. I think he's insurance were just dragging about the courtesy car thing, probably as they know it's gonna cost them.

Recovery company are collecting the car on Monday (just called 2 mins ago). They are just a recovery firm and don't deal with the car. BUT I'm expecting said call within a couple hours from the legal people on my insurance. I'll then make sure a car is sorted. If they don't call say by 2.30 today I'll call them and demand politely some answers.

Thanks for the concern. Mrs is ok, uncomfortable night but we'll survive. I just want a car incase she needs to go somewhere (not just ASDAs for milkshake ).

All joking aside about compensation culture you have a pregnant wife and if the actions of this muppet do genuinely inconvenience you or cause you any lasting discomfort, pain and result in you having to conduct any aspect of your life differently then you should claim as it is legitimate.

You get run into by a Turkish guy, and then you're still thinking about buying a kebab

You should have the number of a reliable minicab company by the phone anyway just in case.

Be careful if you decide to hire a car yourself in case it is decided that it wasn't really necessary, or that it was more expensive than returning you to your pre-accident state.

Hope all goes well.

Had a similar issue when my scooby burst into flames.

The insurance broker were useless and I almost put in a complaint to the ombudsman about them. Didn't want o recover the car (because it costs them) didn't keep me informed at all (cost me a fortune chasing them) and took an age to settle on a clear cut claim.

No courtesy car as that comes from the approved repairer not from the insurance - watch that little scam, meanwhile i lost months of insurance time and the tax on the car the gimps. Plus they sold it before they paid me out!!!

Still driving around in the Merc C class i bought as a 'stop gap'. Its bloomin brilliant!

Glad you are all ok though. 3rd party company might get a quicker result because they pile on the charges. That makes it more important to settle quickly! Keep at 'em!

5t.

Thats a nasty business COB, thank goddness you wife and baby all ok.

Sorry to hear about all that rubbishing from the insurance people. Sounds like the easiest way for you is to insist on a repair to you car and the courtesy car as well.

Hope it sorts out best for you anyway.

And KEEP ringing them.

Hello gents. Just been on the phone for about an hour straight to everyone, insurers, legal eagles, their hire car company, the DVLA....

I'm not going into the legal side as this is a public forum and I have discussed my concerns via PM to the knowledgeable head.

The legal people will be in touch as sods law depicts they call when I'm discussing hire cars/courtesy cars. I dunno if his insurers have admitted liability or what but everything suddenly speeded up after I whinged this morning.

In short the "third party" are paying for me to have a hire car. My car will be collected money. Just waiting for an email to respond to and then will get a call from the hire car providers. I had three options.

1. pay £10 fuel charge (mandatory)
2. pay £30 incase another car hits the bodywork of hire car
3. pay £50 incase another car hits bodywork, glass, wheels etc of hire car

If I don't do 2 or 3 and get hit whilst using said hire car then I'll have to pay an unrecoverable £250 insurance excess.

Anywho, getting a hire car hopefully tomorrow at worst and legal stuff is being sorted. Just been told not to discuss anything with his insurers...

Sorry to hear about all that Andy.
If I were you, I would be fuming! Why the hell should you have to pay anything. HE HIT YOU! If you have to pay anything, keep the receipt and send a copy to the insurance company instructing them to pay the money back to you.
I know you need a car but if these costs outweigh the cost of mini cab to the hospital, is it worth it?

Hope you are all ok, Marie is 27 weeks now!

Doubt I can take the feed pipe off the fuel filter as it only runs for a couple seconds when ignition is on without the car running.

Looks like Fishermans Friend will come in handy unless I can find some clear hose

Dunno if this will be of benefit to others who have had accidents but here goes.

Powleece man who attended on Thurs night has just called. Obviously wanted to ask how the Mrs is which is a nice touch. Also said that they won't be taking any further action (careless/dangerous driving I assume) against the guy who crashed into me. I'm kinda glad in a way as he was very remorsfull and admitted liability straight away. Had there been independant witnesses (not just the tossers who drove by rubber necking) it may have been different. But I have a hire car, hopefully a few quid from the car being written off to buy another runaround and the Mrs is all good thus far.

The powleece man did give me his details incase the other guys insurers went into **** mode and contested liability - unlikely but it could happen. He said given the photos I have and the other guys statement, his insurers would be *ahem* daft to contest.

Oh and the suns out too - happy days.
