Default Engine Oil Advise? Can i mix?

I have no idea what oil is in my Vectra at the minute and will be doing an oil change in the next few weeks, but it needs topping up.

I have some Shell Helix Plus 10/40 in the garage. am i safe to stick this in?

Cheers

Avi

Its a Vectra, whats the worst that can happen ?

Clean oil is fine if its to the right spec, most people dont bother so I am sure it will be fine.

i would probably just bring the oil change forward and then it solves both problems

It doesnt make much difference as long as the oil is within the recommended approved manufacturers limits, vauxhall normally put 10/40 semi synthetic in their cars, or a 5/30 fully synthetic in, seems pretty viable to me
