Default Work - would you have an online forum for it?

I've just done a site for a place I used to work for due to some lads there asked me to get one running after their last one went offline.

So, would anyone else be interested in having a section for their place of work, password access, moderators etc

A bit of a waste for just one workplace so can add others on there.

Obviously no good if you work as part of a duo
Probably best for big companies where they can air their views, improve the workplace an all that.

Any interest / thoughts on this

I doubt any company would be happy to have their affairs discussed in an environment they don't fully control, sorry.

Linked-In probably has forums, but can't say I've ever noticed.

We have an in-house forum tied into workspaces. It gives 40k employees the chance to speak whats on their mind and post ideas that may otherwise be missed.

We have a works forum, but it is based on face to face meetings rather than online. I.e. each section has a forum representative and them once a month the forum meets to discuss concerns with senior management.

For ideas we have a system called "Winnovation" that anyone can put an idea into

Things can be said in text beter than they can said in face to face meetings
people are less likely to voice their grievences or improvements they think could be beneficial for fear of backlash

I disagree. I always prefer to conduct meetings face to face.

I don' know aboutthat. I think people can be far more courteous and think about what they say before they actually say it when face to face, rather than just speak knowing there will no consequence in text form (see this or any other online forum for examples).

I think if you fear a backlash for making suggestions or raising concerns, then you should probably hand your notice in.

dont think intranets will work due to them being watched
as i said facebook is too personal I think for the workplace

either way, these lads wanted a forum (or did!) as they used the previous one quite a lot so i'm putting one up for them and it will be there should anyone else want a section

things done face to face is better imo as well but it didnt work so well where I used to work

depends on the place of work and the number of employees I suppose
