Not read this article but I heard a few strange things happened such as he got another pilot to check the plane over before he took off (something he has not done before), and apparently his choice of a/c was also an odd one as its was very small (not something you would use for scouting) and he had others which were much more suitable. The theory is he took the smallest one so he could land and then take the wings off and load it all into a trailer.

Not surprising that they are claiming he is not dead when it will cost them 25 million in life insurance payouts. There are hundreds of cases of missing aircraft in USA. They have a history of loosing aircraft so this is nothing new. No doubt the courtcase over life insurance will drag on for years.
