Default Don't be alarmed if you see this in your street.

If you see a black Vectra with a pole sticking out of its roof with a load of camera's on it, they're not spying on you. It's only the Googlecam.

I am certainly not keen on this sort of privacy invasion.

In view of what that article said, how is it that a council can descend on an 80 year old lady with their **** snoops and prevent her from taking a picture of an empty child's paddling pool saying that she might post them on the internet for the predeliction of paedophiles!

...and what are they're going to do with the pictures of the reg numbers and location of thousands of vehicles?
It's easy to see how criminals can use that information to their advantage, cloning, car jacking etc.

But this level of detail is going to be a godsend to any burglar - they can see exactly what the lay of the land is - possible escape routes, how accessible a house is... without even walking round the street in a suspicious manner.

Not quite the point is it. If they don't walk down the street, then you will never see anyine acting suspicious. How many times have we seen posted on here where someone's had a car taken that there was a suspicious-looking vehicle or person in the area a day/few days beforehand?

My missus gets all suspicious about anything like that, posting a picture of a car on Autotrader to sell it, she suggests the reg is covered up so I say that she should cover it when she goes out as well.

It is a handy little app, ok like anything it could be misued but like Jackos mate said, a quick walk up and down the road does the same, plus like Google earth the pictures will quickly become out of date and lose their relevance. A lot of crime is opportunistic and the more pre-meditated stuff wouldnt rely on something like this.

If you have a car parked, anyone can see it anyway, if you are that bothered you put it in a garage, same way as people wlaking past, cant see why it would make car-jacking any easier, ok on the same day it may be relevant but it will change daily and cars move so it would be a patient theirf that spots an Evo on Google Streetview and goes to look for it, if its a distance away they will have to travel and risk dissapointment, if it is local they will have seen it anyway.
