Default That Government FUEL SCAM......

Did anyone else see the news on Sunday morning..??

Allegedly the deal is when fuel gets expensive the government will reduce fuel tax to compensate....

That's alright then

However... when fuel gets cheaper tax will increase to "compensate" for the earlier tax reduction?!?!?

Seriously, what a feckin scam!! They know that fuel output will increase and that the cost will come down so they introduce this scam.....

Latest Tory idea .....

I can't wait for the Tories to actually start telling us what they would do if they won the election, should cut the wheat from the chaff somewhat!

Sunday Morning? What's that?

Taxation is a joke IMO. Taxed on your earnings and then on everything you buy.

Les, if they had the answers they have an obligation to tell us ...... RIGHT NOW!

If they think anything of the country, they would divulge their solutions ......

We shall see what they offer in 2 years time, I just wish they would let us into their secrets now to help us all ............... but, as you and I know, they have no answers whatsoever!

In priciple its the most sensible I dea, and of course if oil gets cheaper the tax will go up; But that doesn't matter, what matters is that as a consumer, you get some stability into the price of fuel at the pump.

Let's say, the government sets a target of £100billion from the pumps in tax revenue for the year, and the year starts at £1 a litre. You adjust the fuel duty when the price of oil goes up, and down - adding and reducing tax as applicable. The important thing as far as you as a consumer is concerned is that a litre of fuel costs you £1 on Jan 1st, and £1 on Dec 31st.

As opposed to £1 on Jan 1 and £1.35 on July 8th.

You'd also have to factor in demand.

When the price dropped to 65p (using your figures Pete ) use would increase significantly. Therefore you probably wouldn't have to increase the duty per litre to get the same total take.

But no govt. would pass up such an opportunity to rake in some more cash

Not sure why use would increase significantly when the price at the pump would remain steady at £1 per litre.

I.e. demand aalso remain steady at the set price.

The whole system relies on stability.

I am suggesting that the current system should be more stable. Price increases, tax take per litre increases, but number of litres sold is less, vs, price reduces, tax take per litre reduces, but number of litres sold is more.

No need for HMG intervention

The trouble is SS, if they do tell us a good way to sort a problem the Govt will steal it and claim it as their own.

I agree to a certain extent with what you say, but can you blame them for saving it up for the next election under those circumstances.
