Default Antibiotics and alcohol

Anyone know if drinking alcohol whilst on flucloxacillin antibiotics for a staph infection causes any harm ?

Nah.. it just prevents the fluclox from working, or at least makes it less effective.

So it could be argued that yeah... it's potentially harmfull as you're more likely to have the infection for longer!

But I don't think there are any serious interactions between the drug and alcohol.

Metronidazole on the other hand.. if you ever take this anti-biotic DO NOT drink with it!! :/

*standard.. medical advice disclaimer stands... basically you can't rely on anything I say!

That's OK too, usually prescribed for STDs! But in all honesty, what does your GP say?

Hehe.. quite possibly, but wasn't what I was prescribed it for... I did drink with it and I have never before (or after) felt quite so ill. My head literally felt like it was being torn in two with a blunt instrument!

Sometimes it is prescribed to alcholoics to make them feel exactly that so they give up drinking.

Didn't work for me (For another condition not STD or alcohol related)

I feel I must point out at this point that I was neither riddled with the clap.. or a raging alcoholic when I was prescribed these drugs

Everything you need to know will be stated in the Patient Information Leaflet that should come with the prescribed medicine.

If you did not get a leaflet with it then you should report this to the MHRA.
