Default Disposing of Petrol

I have 5 litres of Petrol premixed with 2 stroke oil that I can't use any more. It's 6 months old and as I use it for flying can't trust it.

Any idea how to get rid of it? The local dump won't touch it.

Find someone with a 2 stroke mower / strimmer / chainsaw / etc. I'm sure they'd happily take it off your hands given the current cost of fuel......

.....or have a very big bonfire

Your local garage will probably tip it in with their waste oil for you, failing that why not have a bloody good fire with it

The pyromaniac in me says have a big fire in your garden. Be careful of the fumes though as they linger after you've poured on the petrol and will follow you / catch you on fire.

Just give it to a neighbour with a non-cat car. The oil's not going to do any harm.

If you run a banger - stick it in that; preferablyt one without a cat.

I've dumped the odd old batch of duff pre-mix (for my leaf vac - it doesn't like old petrol) into the BMW every now an again. Usually goes into the lawn mower though.

Would prefer to do it in a car without a cat, but knowing how much oil cars can burn anyway with no effect to the cat or OS sensors. Just need to make sure whatever additive is used doesn't contain silicone or lead.

I would take it off you for my mower and strimmer, but being on the south coast it would probably cost me 5 gallons of SUL to fetch it (assuming you're not in East Sussex too). BTW, what ratio is it mixed in?

I had a fire in the garden when I needed to use up some old Toluene. It worked a treat but left a hole in the ground.

I've poured the odd splat of petrol at the end of the garden on the weeds(it came from the ground so can go back to ground), or a bit riskier leave the lid off it and let it evaporate

Wait till you next change your oil, mix it all together and paint your garden fence! Cheap creasote, a guy at work swears by it.

Needed to get rid of it quick so I tipped it down the drain.

Not really, went to the dump and they took it off my hands.

It was a 2% mix of Super Unleaded and Castrol TTS. Only the best for my flying lawnmower.

Had the same trouble / dilemma at the start of the season last week, my 50:1 has been in the tank since sept/ oct last year.

i had 12 litres of the stuff.

the tried it in practice, and it was fine my rotax didnt complain at all

just tether the bugger down, max rpm, and it'll consume a gallon in 10 mins

Bit of a moot point now it's been dumped, but would adding fuel stabilizer have helped any? We have a similar quandary here, 25l of fuel + oil sitting in the portable tank for the outboard since haul out in september. Boat went in last week and we fitted the outboard yesterday, and we're reluctant to just bin a full tank of fuel. I've chucked in some fuel stabilizer to see if that helps any.

Motor did start and run ok yesterday, but much like you, I'm not overly trusting of it, but at least we're not in the air, a place where you really don't want to take risks. I'm going to see how it goes, but obviously don't want to screw up the motor.

If you're near glasgow I can dispose of it in my old Range Rover, it'll run on most things

Bugger, just noticed you'd dumped it

... this is my first post/reply, so please dont crucify me ! As I understand it, as petrol evaporates its the more volatile componrents (isomers) that evaporate first. these tend to cause "pinking" ,, so theoretically if you left the lid off for a week or so the octane rating increases ! .. if the lid is on tight and there is no appreciable air space in can there is very little change, even after a few years .. I'd be much more worried if motor not run for 6 months about the petrol thats evaporated to nothing in the carb, nothing except for varnish / residue that block jets etc .. this seems to happen every year on my 2 wheel vehicle !
