Off to Sharm-El-Sheikh for a well deserved holiday, anyone on here been, and what have I got to look forward to, good or bad? Staying at Hilton Sharks Bay.

yes its good. Ignore everyone in the street. go motorbiking or quad riding in the dessert have a go on the cart track, and hire a car as the taxi drivers are annoying. £.50 pence taxi rides become £10 and it takes 30 mins to get them dow to a half reasonable price.

I was there in February. I had a great time.
The scuba diving and snorkelling is great if you like watersports.
The main tourist street wasn't too crowded and most people just left us alone, apart from people trying to get you at taxi on your way out.
And best of all it was full of gorgeous Russian women wearing not a lot.

My girlfriend speaks a little russian and made friends with the hottest russian girl Sharm has ever seen which made my day. She did make friends with the girls mother as well though and the mother was a moustache bearing monster.

quad biking is cool, go on one of the desert safaries to the national park and beduin camps haggle for everything go in really low at first, theres a decent carting track on the way out of town on the right not far from your hotel you wont need a hire car use the hotel taxis but agree a price first! the hotel will tell you how much it should cost and if the driver gives you any cr@p report him to the manager!if you find a good one he will be your driver for the week and will look after you go with his recomendations and youll have a great time. only eat hot food avoid salad and brush teeth with bottled water, also drink lots of water as the runs are more often caused by dehydration than bad food...just say no and keep walking if you not interested in what people are selling...with a smile

Went a couple of years ago, stayed in the hotel complex predominantly, and did a two day Scuba course, hotel was decent enough, Scuba was fun, it was hot, what more do you want?
We were in Sharks Bay, can't remember the hotel...

I went to TGI Friday's twice. on the first visit the food was great, the steak just melted in my mouth.
On the second trip, they mucked it up completely, sending out the wrong side orders, over-cooking the steaks and taking forever to get the bill to us.
In the end, the manager actually came to us to see if the steaks were better (not quite so over-cooked the second time), he offered us complimentary desserts and even discounted the meals, which was nice of him. If I'd been once, I'd have recommended it highly, but after the second visit, I'm not so sure.
Hard Rock cafe is just down the road from TGI's, but I wasn't overly thrilled as I have got used to people not smoking in bars in the UK, and ended up smelling like an ashtray when I had left Hard Rock.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. Don't go till Thursday, so keep your comments coming. Looking forward to the break, but a bit concerned about the jippy tummy. Also, Ive been told that you have to tip everyone, from the bus driver (transfer from airport to hotel) to the towel boy. I am not tight, but how much would do they expect?

Here's one we found out just as we were leaving. If you want to stop them expecting tips, then give them British coins the first time they expect a tip. They can only exchange notes at the foreign exchange so they don't bother hassling you for more

I cannot express how much I dislike the mentality that makes people travel for hours on holliday then eat in burger king, pizza hut, hard rock etc. Go the the little buddah or the askabash fish bar for some decent fresh food.

We we're hoping to get out there for the half term break too but flights are fairly costly for just a short break (especially with two young children). Who have you booked thru ??
