The Olympic Torch Being Carried - On the News!
I notice no one has started a thread about this yet so thought I would.
Was it just me that thought the pictures on the news tonight of an army(and I mean army) of police officers accompanying the torch carriers was absolutely F*cking hilarious!!! I mean, what is the world coming to...and what is it going to be like in the future??? PC/health and safety/nannystate gone mad!! Its crazy!
Anyway, rant over...
Opinions please

They did protest... quite strenuously at times by the look of things. One guy nearly got hold of the torch!
I'd say these protests are only gonna get worse as the torch moves around the world..
We should have told them to bugger of with it... we'll have the torch when it comes here in 2012.. the whole torch carrying thing is a throwback to **** propaganda anyway.. just scrap it.

It looked a bit of a joke from the news.
I dread what coould happen in China once the games start.
Al Quaeda must be looking for a massive audience again at some point, and China's not exactly advanced or experienced in defending terrorism.

But read BBC NEWS | World | Europe | IOC chief speaks out over Tibet
Seems the IOC are now getting *cold feet* after giving in to China getting the games in the first place (no matter that it's an athletics event in a very polluted city!!). Slightly hypocritical to my way of thinking. They were ready to take the *Chinese dollar* to stage the games and the Tibet situation was not new when it was decided.

Wouldn't put it past them, Al Qaeda were against communism in the 1980's (the russians in Afghanistan), they even received funding and training from the US Money well spent

I just watched a bit of CCTV (Chinese State TV). They used ONLY the shots without Tibetan flags in the background or any hint of the protest.
Why do we have anything to do with such a deceitful authoritarian and manipulative country (I could go on)?
It is a clear demonstration into how they operate and how they lie about events - completely untrustable on what they say about Tibet therefore (etc).
What was worse was that the guy peddling this misinformation as news was a Westerner on a fat wage no doubt.
I SO wish they had got to the flame and further embarassed this bully state and made the headlines worldwide (well except China of course).

It was hillarious watching the news last night. It reminded me of a school boy rugby match
The Chinese must be holding their heads in their hands over this debacle.
Ive just seen that the flame has been put out in Paris, unfortunately by the IOC. This is going to get better and better with each city trying to out-do the previous one.

I too wish the flame had been put out and Brown would speak out about what is going on in China and Tibet, he seems to have no problems when it comes to Zimbabwe or Iraq or Iran for example - China - he is silent. I hear it all goes on behind the scenes - I bet!

Here's an idea........
Perhaps the IOC could start a rumour (Chinese whisper ) that they are worried that athletes might pull out of the games at the last minute in protest.
So there are contingency plans being put in place for the games to be held elsewhere within a short time frame using existing venues in different parts of the world.
This might encourage our take-away friends to sort thing out pdq?

Lets home it continues in other countries
How on Earth an event that is supposed symbolise peace and human endeavour was chosen to be hosted there is beyond me. And whilst they claim politics is irrelevant, it never will be; Whilst the hosting country has genocidal tendancies and sheer disregard for human life, yet alone human rights means it contradicts every principal of what the Olympics are supposed to symbolise.
(and this is from someone who agreed with the one child per family regime )

Funny how there are loads of people sticking up for tibet but yet we get shafted every which way and we still sit on our backsides doing sweet fa, time to take to the streets a few thousand people will cause mayhem.

I think that the IOC is as political as it comes anyway in the way they award the Olympics to countries, and also the apparent necessity to try to outdo all other nations at vast expense belies the true meaning of sport as far as the event is concerned.
I think it should be held in Greece each year and that each competing country should contribute towards the cost.

I find I can't forget that young bloke with glasses who defied a tank in Tiananmem Square during the students' protests, and made it stop in it's tracks, and who was later reported to have been executed!
