Looks reasonable and right bang in the city centre I'm looking for a double room for 4 nights at the end of May.

it looks smarter than when we went tbh.
i opened the window in our room and there was another window really close by with a woman parking her breakfast, also there was a bong in the room as well.

if your goin with the missus its a bit scruffy i thought to be honest |(the place not the hotel) if your takin her away id go to lucerne or innsbruck somewhere like that .
we had the nicest meal we have ever had there as well. it was ina resteraunt above a bar, the only way i can describe it is if you come out of the centraal station cross the tram lines and little wharfs and turn left there was a dead loud bar bangin music etc, but on the floor above it was a beautiful restearuent. we sat in a window and watched the world go by on a rainy night it was beautiful.

The Tulip is a dump, as is Hotel France etc.
You cant argue with Krasnapolsky, i've stayed in Amsterdam accomodation hotel Die Port vanCleve which is just off Dam Square and pretty good.
Lots of hotels in Amsterdam are shockingly bad, not too dissimilar to Blackpool in many respects.
Best to go by other people recommendation's and then you wont go too far wrong.
Its a great city, plenty to do. Enjoy your stay.

Amazing museums, history and gallerys to explore in the day though
Pretty good shops and food if you know where to go.
And of course if your lady is "open minded" you can have massive fun at night
To be honest i wouldn't go there with any girl who wasn't up for perverted nocturnal fun, it just wouldn't be the same would it.

Amsterdam Hotel Guide is a good place to start.
I stayed at the Rho Hotel a few years back and it was a decent 3* with a good breakfast. Just off Dam Square too so a great location.
I've also stayed at the Tulip and it is as basic as they come but is usually good for late bookings.

Another vote for the Grand Krasnapolsky, a bit pricey but good quality, just have to run the gauntlet of hookers and drug dealers outside the door all night

Its quite expensive though but worth it !

NH Caransa is also a good choice.
Away from the main drag a bit, but in a nice part of town with The Outback bar across the square which serve the best burgers in town.

Oh, forgot, i did stay at the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel
once when a mates company was paying for a whole stag doo of us. It was in a good area near the station but really quiet yet 5-10 min walk away from the centre/action.
