The Americans did it everywhere. On many of the old airfields the Americans used in WW2 here, instead of shipping many of the vehicles, equipment and tools back to the US, they simply dug big holes and buried it all.

Goes to show though - for all the doom and gloom from environmentalists, this just proves how adaptable and hardy nature is.

I do like the bit where we though we were going to be able to get something for free....only to watch them drive the kit off the end of the pier

I would just have loved to see the faces of the people concerned when that happened. No doubt some greedy politician trying to save some cash, only to watch his plan go out to sea

They also did that near the beach at Torcross in Devon where they had the rehearsals for D Day. Apparently there are still a load of lorries and jeeps etc buried there.

As well as the secret mass graves of over 600 servicemen who were killed in the D-Day rehearsal at Slapton Sands.

The British aren't much better. And much more recently than the forties.

We buried tons of stuff in Iraq in 2003 rather than ship it home.

I find wikipedia (quite geeky i know!) really good for military stuff, then theres this place (British Army Rumour Service) which is also a good read. Written by those who are in the know.

I've scoured and scoured that beach (have a flat on the sea front there) and have only ever found one small shell casing.
Most unimpressed!

As for that bloke that did the report. LOL
He wasn't much of a diver if he called the things on his feet Flippers!
