Default Gordon Brown On TV Sunday

I could not believe the BBC politics show on Sunday. If anyone has any doubt that the BBC is obscenely biased towards the government there is the proof.

Our beloved leader sat and calmly stated that inflationis running at 2% what planet is that idiot living on.

Fuel is up 40%+ since last year
Mortgages up at least 10%
Council tax at the least 15%
Food up more than 15%
Gas and electric up towards 30% if you live in the southeast
Money supply is running at +10%(the amountof money that the Bank of England is printing)

HOW he can have the barefaced cheek to go on TV and say 2%

More importantly Andrew Marr in my opinion destroyed his integrity by not cross-examining the slack-jawed bufffooon

Inflation is running at 2% - Mortgage repayments aren't included in the CPI calculation and the "average" basket of good that inflation is based on is running at 2%.

Of course whether you agree that the CPI is an accurate reflaction of real life is another matter. But the PM is correct to say that the CPI is running at 2%

I don't see what the BBC is supposed to do.

What the hell is included in this mythical basket....

It must be:

DVD players
iPods
flat panel televisions
laptop computers

Not:
eggs
super unleaded
diesel
bread
electrics
gas
rent
council tax
income tax
cigarettes
beer
curry

What a F**king liberty!!!

They add stuff like HD DVD players, of which the price is falling which balances stuff like day to day goods.

Why do they have things like that in there, they are a luxury item and not an every day purchase!! Get rid of items like that and we'll see truer figures IMO.

Of course they will "cook" the official inflation figures and of course that will not include the items which genuinely affect a family since they are not to be trusted in any respect any more.

The BBC used to be truly independent of the government in power but now that the governors are placed there and are shamefully threatened by the government with cutbacks of their funding unless they toe the line, what else can we expect-it can only get worse!

I don't think its quite that bad as the 45 minute "sexed up" and the whole Dr Kelly affair shows.

That was the point where I lost faith in the impartiallity of the BBC. After Hutton's whitewash and the investigation of Andrew Gilligan's report there was a marked change in the operation of the BBC.

Each grouping has a weight attributed to it. It's not an exact science for lots of different reasons, the main one being it is not representative of different income levels, so a low earner will spend less as a proportion on luxury goods.

Surely it should be based on the necessary items that all families have to buy to exist.

But why quote 2% it is an absolute travesty. Based on the calculator posted on the office of National statistics website my inflation rate is 16% that's a big difference from 2%. That number doesn't factor in the fact that the pound is devaluing making the figure even worse

National Statistics Online - Personal Inflation Calculator

Because thats the headline inflation rate

Its what a lot of (read : all) fiscal policy is based on.
