Default Florida - recommendations for places to go

Not parks! We've got some days set aside to do the parks, but want to have a look further afeild at what Florida has to offer.

We're going to go to Kennedy Space Centre and considering Tampa Bay - any other recommendations for places worth a visit within 2-3 hours drive of Kissimmee? I wouldn't have minded going to Tallahassee, but it's just too far. Same goes for the Keys, though Jacksonville may just be within reach.

Get yourself down the keys, beautiful and great fun, on the way take in a 'gator reservation and likley a guided tour on an airboat!

Keys are great and relaxing, we stayed over in lslamorada(sp) and drove into keywest, wonderful drive, Keywest is open all night, great for families, etc.

Also goto Daytona raceway if something is on, or Symra they have a small raceway with truck racing and a beach near by, clear waters and nice sandy sand

Also goto Clearwater beach it is a great drive and you can go over the skyway bridge which is pretty amazing and only about 1 1/2 hours from Kissimmee.

If you're staying in Orlando area, the Keys is a bit of a mission to get to, but worth it at the same time. The drive down the Turnpike (think we used the Turnpike anyway) is a long one so an overnight stay would be recommended.

My personal recommendations, Kennedy, Daytona (beach and raceway) Tampa is on if you go Busch, and DEFINATLY go on an airboat.

To be precise, Aquatic Adventures Airboat Tours 321-689-4281 Worth every cent!

Kennedy Space Shuttle simulator is also pretty impressive. Went on it in August this year.

Got some excellent snaps of the place too.
Cant wait to get back out there.

June 28th the flight takes off to get back out there.

What time of year are you going?
If you do theme parks invest in fast passes, Blue Man Group at Universal is excellent
Old Town on the 192 is also very impressive if you like cars

Nice and peaceful, less summer storms (which are awesome ) and cheaper for some things.

Make sure you do the airboat though, I thought, RUBBISH, but my friend who lives out there insisted I did. Amazing experience.

Caught this while on it YouTube - Gator on the lake
The guide is brilliant.

Kevin,

Another theme park, but if you go to Tampa bay you MUST visit Busch gardens! Amazing zoo and theme park. Make sure you go on the safari and the vertical drop coster!

lol thought so.

I got muttered about when I was taking pics inside the prep part where they are doing the stuff to go on the shuttle.
Clearly people are not aware of the difference between flash photography and NON flash lol

Without a doubt one of my fav shots

Do an internet search for Captain John who is located in a little town called Chrismas. He does an individual guided Airbout tour showning the natural wildlife of the area.

Also..... Friday and Saturday night cruises at Oldtown Kissimmee are tremendous.

Definately do Busch Gardens

Cypress Gardens is a very old fashioned themepark which is a very relaxing day out.

Enjoy

We were lucky enough to be last June and saw the shuttle launch, might be worth checking out if there are any shuttle/rocket launches around time you are there.

Would defo recommend [b]Old Town[b], some great classic/muscle car/bike cruises in the evenings and a fair with the FASTEST drag simulator. 0-120mph in 2.5secs!!!

Ponderosa >>> mmmmmm >>> Ponderosa Steakhouse | Orlando & Kissimmee Florida Family Buffet & Restaurant

Ron Jons surf park? Not sure if thats open yet, probably not

Daytona, cracking beach with quads to hire

Wonder Works >>> Central Florida's only upside down attraction || Wonder Works

Ripleys >>> Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

Theres a new water park opened, cant remember the name but has a fantastic looking water slide that goes underwater. Your in a clear tube and get to see the sealife and you slide down/into it.

Cant think of anywhere else right now but will post up anything else i think of.

Only takes a few seconds to get drenched dont it lol, but its fun all the same. Getting changed in the car park into my swimming trunks was quite a feat.
There was a lightning strike just outside the tunnel we were sheltering in awesome experience, and SO loud!

Ron Johns Surf Park is gonna be amazing when it opens. Festival Bay as a whole is getting a lot better.

Dont forget to check out the numerous Nike outlets lol
Wonderworks freaked me out when I first saw it.

Oh and if you DO go Seaworld.... the show to watch is Shamu Rocks (night show) not the main Shamu Show.
The Pirates show with the sealions is fantastic too.
