Panasonic 42inch with pedestal, £750 with 5 year warranty. Richer sounds, just bought one and most happy with it.

You DON'T want the R model - look at the resolution. The M model (which is JUST outside your price range) is the one to go for. The R will only show 1080i, the M will show 1080P

The M model displays in 1920x1080 the R in 1366x768

I have the M and it is a stunning TV

Bearing in mind Upscaling DVD and Sky HD use 720p or 1080i there is no point in buying a 1080p screen unless you are using Blu Ray or HD DVD.

currys or comet do a 42 or 47 inch lg with a full cinema surround system etc for £999

the lg's do generally have a v good picture quality, dont know the specs on the one advertised but its possibly something to think about and it will be easy to see one set up (albeit probably with a poor signal)

If you want to see Sky HD at its best, you need a 1080p screen.

There's every need - the lower spec range do not display 1080 lines so you lose quality - getting a 1920 by 1080 screen means you see it as transmitted - and believe me it makes all the difference

Why buy a minimax for your living area? they look crap, dominate the whole room, and make you look like you are a Jeremy Kyle fan.

Working on the assumption you are a working bloke, says you don't live in a mansion with a 47 foot long living room. So, 23" is big enough for any room, whereyou are within 12 ft of the telly..

Go into Currys, if you see something you like, go onto Currys parent company's website Dixons. You'll find it a few hundred pounds cheaper.
That's what I did last week. Sony KDL40W2000 only £850 (with discount code)
