Get this (The Curry Secret). About as close as you can get to curry house sauces at home. Far better than the stuff in jars from the supermarket, though it does take time to make, it is certainly worth it

Making your own is easy and well worth it. Get the basic spices from a wholesaler, somebody like Wing Yip - you'll get half a kilo for what you pay for a crappy little swartz jar.
