Opera legend Pavarotti dies at 71
RIP
BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Opera legend Pavarotti dies at 71
Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti has died at his home in the northern city of Modena, his manager has announced.
The singer, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, was 71.
His charismatic performances - particularly alongside fellow tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras - helped bring a new audience to opera.
Pavarotti had cancer surgery in July 2006 in New York, five months after his last performance. He had not made any public appearances since then.
He underwent five bouts of chemotherapy in the past year, and was admitted to hospital with a fever on 8 August. He was released two weeks later following diagnostic tests.
Fellow tenor Domingo said he had "always admired the God-given glory" of Pavarotti's voice.

One of the greatest losses to the world of entertainment
Was brought up listening to Pavorotti (mother a massive fan) and although I don't particularly appreciate opera, I know I am unlikely to hear another voice as great as that in my lifetime
Truly sad

I feel for Pavarotti’s family, they’ve phoned round a few funeral parlours and asked if they can organise a funeral for a tennor, they told them to f#ck off and hung up

Not a huge classical music fan either, but there was something about Pavarotti. Just watched the re run of the concert he gave in Central Park - absolutely amazing.

As a tribute to the great man, the Italian Prime Minister is having the windscreen of a Japanese car built into the roof of his Tuscanny villa.
It's a Nissan dormer.
