Sick of the word 'Monumental'
Every time i open a bloody car mag and EVO seems to be the worst offender, i see the word 'Monumental'
Since the initial roadtest of the Veyron (although i think Clarkson used it when he tested the F1 -but not sure) roadtesters are constantly spouting this damn word.
Any car that is a bit quicker than normal or is good round corners offers 'Monumental' performance/handling blah, blah,
What next the Vauxford XYZ has a Monumantal glovebox - please feckin sort it out.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this at all.
The only two cars that are worthy of this word is the Veyron and the Macca F1.
anyone else notice this???

my take is they all love their buzzwords
other industries are just as guilty
now being in the IT industry the bull**** bingo is even worse
under no circumstances do you think differently, you think "outside the box"
men who have never played football become "goal-orientated"
every man and his dog become "Non-Traditional Management"
nothing is decided it is "Etched in Stone"
to have a go at something becomes a "challenge"
a guess becomes a "ball park" figure
last of all instead of we'll sort it later we get "we'll take it offline"

Indeed, don't forget how contradictory, biased, and sometimes downright incorrect their reviews can be...1 year's subscription was more than enough, no more. I actually got to a point where I started cringing when it fell though the letterbox.
It's not just EVO though.
I think as cars today (especially exotic and sports cars) are getting more and more mundane, safe handling and easy to drive. Mags feel the need to bolster their reviews and sex things up (a leaf out of Labour's book, eh? ).
I just don't understand how they can call a supercar "Monumental" when it feel likes like, handles like and is as easy to drive as a top of the range VW Golf. Think if I was writing a review it would say something along the lines of: "barring the looks and outright speed, I may as well put a rocket on a Polo...at least it would feel fast and take some effort and skill to drive".
Fot that I don't really read car mags anymore, I usually only buy them if I'm short of a book to read on a plane flight -then I only end up just looking at the pictures, stats and the odd rant/moan in the columns (which if its Top Gear magazine, May and Clarky always raise a few mirths ).
